AKG K712 PRO Open-Back Reference Headphones
AKG K712 PRO is an open-back reference headphone for careful listening, mixing and mastering in a quiet room. Its over-ear construction, detachable cable and 62-ohm impedance make it a studio-focused option for checking stereo placement and recording balances.
Why Choose AKG K712 PRO?
Open earcups let sound pass in both directions. That makes this a desk-listening choice rather than an isolation headphone beside a live microphone. Evaluate mixes at a comfortable level and cross-check important decisions on another playback system.
Key Features
- Open-back design: intended for quiet-room reference listening.
- Over-ear cushions: surround the ears during extended sessions.
- Detachable mini-XLR cable: can be replaced independently.
- Flat-wire voice-coil design: part of AKG’s reference-monitoring construction.
Best Suited For
Mixing, editing and detailed music listening in quiet home or professional studio environments.
Setup and Connection Guide
Connect to a suitable headphone output and check that it provides comfortable level without distortion. Work at a moderate volume, use familiar reference material and take listening breaks. Because the earcups are open, keep the room quiet and avoid using them where playback leakage could enter a nearby recording microphone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the K712 PRO a microphone?
No. It is a wired reference headphone for listening and monitoring. It does not include a microphone for recording vocals or making calls.
Do open-back headphones block outside noise?
No. Open designs allow sound in and out. Use closed-back headphones when isolation or reduced spill into a microphone is more important than the open listening format.
Is a dedicated headphone amplifier essential?
That depends on the source’s output capability and your required listening level. Try a suitable interface or headphone output first; impedance alone does not describe how loud a headphone will play.
