HDMI Cables buying guide

We stock HDMI cables for every setup, from 1-metre leads behind a TV to 20-metre fibre optic runs to a ceiling projector. Brands include Kordz, Belkin, Honeywell, Bandridge, Wozoyo and Amigo, with HDMI 2.0 and HDMI 2.1 cables in copper and fibre (AOC) versions, from about ₹400.

Which HDMI cable do you need?

  • Up to 3 metres: a certified High Speed or Ultra High Speed copper cable for TVs, set-top boxes and streaming devices.
  • For PS5, Xbox Series X and 4K/120 Hz or 8K TVs: Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 (48 Gbps).
  • 5 to 10 metres: a high-quality certified cable; consider fibre for 4K/120 Hz.
  • Over 10 metres (projectors, AV racks, conference rooms): fibre optic (AOC) HDMI. It is thin and flexible and keeps full bandwidth over long distances.
  • For eARC and Dolby Atmos to a soundbar or AV receiver, use an HDMI 2.1 cable.

HDMI versions explained

  • HDMI 1.4: 4K at 30 Hz, basic ARC. Now outdated.
  • HDMI 2.0 (18 Gbps): 4K at 60 Hz with HDR.
  • HDMI 2.1 (48 Gbps): 4K at 120 Hz, 8K at 60 Hz, VRR, ALLM and eARC.

The cable itself does not have a "version"; what matters is its certified speed rating, such as Premium High Speed or Ultra High Speed.

Fibre optic HDMI cables

Fibre cables convert the electrical signal to light and back, allowing very long runs without signal loss or interference. They are directional: the "Source" end goes to your player, receiver or switch, and the "Display" end to the TV or projector. Pull them gently through conduit and avoid sharp bends.

Installing HDMI cables in walls and ceilings

Run cables through conduit so they can be replaced in future. Choose in-wall rated cables, leave extra length at each end, and test the cable before closing the wall or ceiling.

Troubleshooting HDMI problems

If you see flickering, sparkles or no signal, check that the cable is fully seated, try a shorter or higher-rated cable, and make sure the TV's HDMI input is set to "Enhanced" or "4K/120" mode for high-bandwidth signals.

Brands we trust

Kordz cables are used by professional installers; Belkin and Honeywell offer reliable certified cables; Bandridge, Wozoyo and Amigo provide good value options, including long fibre runs.

Which cable should I use for a projector 15 metres away?

A fibre optic (AOC) HDMI cable rated for 4K or 8K.

Are fibre HDMI cables directional?

Yes. Connect the Source end to the player and the Display end to the TV or projector.

Does HDMI carry audio?

Yes. HDMI carries both video and multichannel audio, including Dolby Atmos via eARC.

Can I use an HDMI 2.1 cable with an older TV?

Yes. HDMI cables are backward compatible.

Do you have long HDMI cables in stock?

Yes. We stock lengths up to 20 metres and more in fibre optic versions.
