Tascam Model 12 Integrated 12-track Multitrack Recorder & Usb Audio Interface

Tascam Model 12 – The Mixer, Recorder and Interface in One Box

The Tascam Model 12 collapses an entire small studio into a single desktop console: a 10-input analogue mixer, a 12-track recorder that writes straight to SD card, and a 12-in/10-out USB audio interface for your DAW. You can capture a band rehearsal, a podcast or a full song demo with no computer in the room, then plug in one USB-C cable later and finish the mix in software. Nothing about the workflow requires menus-diving – it is faders, knobs and transport buttons, like the tape-era Portastudios Tascam built its name on, updated for how people record now.

At its heart are eight of Tascam’s Ultra-HDDA microphone preamps recording at 24-bit/48 kHz, with per-channel compressors, EQ and effects, plus Bluetooth and smartphone inputs for the sources modern sessions actually involve.

Key features

• 12-track recording direct to SD, SDHC or SDXC card at 24-bit/48 kHz, no computer needed
• 12-in/10-out USB audio interface (USB-C) for recording into any DAW
• 8 Ultra-HDDA mic preamps with +48 V phantom power and Hi-Z instrument capability
• 10 line inputs plus a 3.5 mm TRRS smartphone input and Bluetooth 5.0 input
• One-knob compressors and 3-band EQ with sweepable mid on the input channels
• 16 built-in effects including reverbs, delays, chorus and flanger
• 60 mm faders, two headphone outputs, subgroup and two aux sends
• MIDI in and out, click output with tap tempo, and DAW control via HUI/MCU

Recording without a computer changes the session

A laptop in a session is a distraction: screens, fans, notifications, updates. The Model 12 records twelve tracks – the ten inputs plus the stereo mix – directly to an SD card as WAV files, with punch-in and punch-out, overdubbing and a built-in metronome feeding the click output. Song ideas, rehearsals and live gigs get captured at full quality the moment they happen. Afterwards, the card or a USB connection hands every track to your DAW for editing and mixing.

A mixer first, not a menu

Each channel gets a real 60 mm fader, a one-knob compressor that tames a vocal or bass with a single turn, and three bands of EQ with a sweepable midrange for finding and fixing problem frequencies. Sixteen Tascam effects cover the reverbs and delays a mix or a monitor feed usually needs. Two musicians can monitor on separate headphone outputs, and the subgroup makes submixing drums or backing vocals a fader move rather than a routing puzzle.

Podcasts, streaming and hybrid work

The same features make the Model 12 a strong podcast and streaming desk: multiple mic inputs with compressors, a smartphone input with mix-minus behaviour for phone guests, Bluetooth for playing in music or taking a wireless source, and simultaneous multitrack recording as a safety net under any live stream. DAW control over HUI/MCU means the faders also drive your software when the session moves to the computer.

Use a Class 10 or faster SD card, set gains with the compressors barely working on peaks, and the Model 12 rewards you with clean, separated tracks every time. It is the shortest path from an idea to a recorded song that Tascam makes.
