ADAM Audio T7V Studio Monitor – 7-Inch Active Nearfield Monitor with U-ART Tweeter

The ADAM Audio T7V is an active two-way nearfield studio monitor built for project and home studios that want the clarity of ADAM’s ribbon tweeter design at an accessible level. A 7-inch polypropylene woofer covers the lows and mids down to 39 Hz, while the 1.9-inch U-ART accelerated ribbon tweeter reaches 25 kHz through a precision HPS waveguide. Separate Class-D amplifiers drive each driver, 50 watts to the woofer and 20 watts to the tweeter, for a total of 70 watts per monitor. The T7V is sold as a single speaker, so a stereo setup uses two units.

Design and build

The cabinet is a compact 347 x 210 x 293 mm and weighs 7.1 kg, sized for meter bridges and desktop stands. The bass reflex port fires from the rear panel alongside the inputs and controls, so leave some clearance behind the cabinet near a wall, and use the low-shelf switch to compensate if the wall is close. The bevelled front edges are functional as well as visual, softening edge diffraction around the drivers.

Sound performance

The U-ART tweeter folds its diaphragm like an accordion, moving four times the air of a conventional design for its size, which gives the T7V its fast, open top end and keeps distortion low: total harmonic distortion is 0.5 percent above 80 Hz. The HPS waveguide shapes the tweeter’s output to match the woofer’s dispersion at the crossover, holding a stable stereo image across the listening spot. Bass reaching 39 Hz means kick drums and bass lines register without a subwoofer in most project-studio work.

Connections and room tuning

One XLR and one RCA input sit on the rear panel, with input impedance of 10 kOhm balanced and 20 kOhm unbalanced. Gain, the sensitivity switch and the two EQ shelves are also on the back, set once during setup. High-shelf works above 5 kHz and low-shelf below 300 Hz, each in 2 dB steps, enough to correct the usual effects of a desk surface or a nearby wall.
