Tascam Model 2400 – A 22-Input Analogue Console That Records Everything It Mixes

The Tascam Model 2400 is the flagship of Tascam’s Model series: a large-format analogue recording console with 22 input channels, 16 Ultra-HDDA microphone preamps, and a built-in multitrack recorder that captures 24 tracks – every input plus the stereo mix – directly to SDXC card. Patch in a full band, mix on real 100 mm faders with hands on the EQ, and walk away with isolated tracks of the entire session. No computer, no interface, no driver has to work for the recording to happen.

When the session does move to a computer, the same desk becomes a 24-in/22-out USB audio interface with DAW transport control, so mixes can return through the console’s analogue channels for summing and hands-on rides.

An analogue desk that never misses a take

Studios and live engineers share one fear: the perfect performance that was not recorded. The Model 2400 removes it by making recording a property of the console itself. Arm the tracks, press record, and the desk captures every channel to SDXC while you mix the room or the monitors as normal. Rehearsals, live shows and tracking sessions are all preserved as multitrack WAV files, ready to hand to a DAW for editing, overdubs or a full remix.

Channel count with real routing

Twenty-two inputs cover a full band with room to spare – drum kits take multiple preamps, keyboards arrive in stereo, and there are still channels for vocals and talkback. Four stereo subgroups let you compress and fade drums, backing vocals or keys as single instruments; five aux sends run separate monitor mixes without stealing the effects send; and inserts on the first twelve channels patch in favourite outboard compressors and EQs. Phantom power switches in groups of four, and a 100 Hz low-cut filter keeps stage rumble and handling noise out of the recording.

The bridge to the DAW

Over USB, the Model 2400 sends 24 channels to the computer and takes 22 back, so a mix can be returned channel-by-channel and summed through analogue faders and the main-bus EQ and compressor – the hybrid workflow many engineers prefer over mixing entirely in the box. HUI/MCU emulation adds transport and record-ready control from the desk surface, MIDI synchronises sequencers and drum machines, and Bluetooth covers playback duties between sessions.
