The Bespeco PN90XLNO is a pneumatic, air-cushioned speaker stand built for PA cabinets that mount on a standard 35 mm pole. Raising a loaded speaker stand is the awkward part of any setup: the cabinet is heavy, the pole has to move smoothly, and a stand that drops suddenly can damage the speaker, the stand or the person holding it. The PN90XLNO answers that problem with an air-cushioned telescopic tube. The pneumatic assistance supports the load as the height changes, so the cabinet rises and, just as importantly, lowers in a controlled way instead of sliding down under its own weight the moment a lock is released.

How the air cushion helps

On a conventional stand, height adjustment under load is a two-handed negotiation between the cabinet’s weight and the locking mechanism. The PN90XLNO’s pneumatic valve changes the balance of that job: the air cushion carries part of the effort, the pushbutton sets the position through the equidistant holes in the telescopic tube, and the safety knob locks the result. Lowering is where the design earns its keep most clearly, because a controlled descent protects the cabinet’s pole socket and the stand’s tube from the shock of a sudden drop. The anti-rotation groove in the aluminium tube keeps the cabinet facing where it was aimed while the height changes.

Stability on the floor

A speaker stand is only as good as its footprint. The PN90XLNO’s steel legs open into a tripod stance, and the slotted link bars allow the legs to close completely for transport, which saves space in a vehicle or store room and removes the half-open stance that makes folded stands awkward to stack. The PN90XLNO suits mobile PA work, houses of worship, schools, rehearsal rooms, rental stock and small venues where cabinets go up and down regularly and one person often does the lifting. Getting the cabinet to the right height improves coverage: the loudspeaker’s output reaches the back of the audience area over the heads in front, rather than being absorbed by the first rows. Setting it up safely

Open the legs fully on a level surface and check the footprint before mounting anything. Fit the cabinet onto the 35 mm pole, support its weight with one hand while you operate the pushbutton with the other, set the height, and engage the safety knob. Keep the load centred over the tripod, route the speaker cable so it cannot pull the cabinet off balance, and never release a lock under an unsupported cabinet: the air cushion assists the movement, it does not hold the speaker for you. Lower the cabinet and close the legs fully before carrying the stand away.
