Sharge Retro 35W GaN Charger

Sharge Retro 35W GaN Charger

The Sharge Retro 35W GaN Charger is a single-port USB-C wall charger styled like a miniature classic Macintosh computer, complete with a smiling face on its little screen. Behind the joke is serious charging hardware: gallium nitride components deliver up to 35W from a body measuring about 43.4 x 34.9 x 31.7 mm and weighing roughly 55 g, small enough to disappear into a pocket, a cable pouch or the corner of a laptop sleeve. It is a charger bought as much for the desk as for the road, and it performs properly in both places.

35W of GaN power

Thirty-five watts is a useful size of charger. It fast-charges modern phones at or near their maximum wired rate, tops up tablets comfortably, and can run or charge a thin laptop such as a MacBook Air when the original brick is in another bag. Gallium nitride switches more efficiently than older silicon designs, which is why this much output fits in a body barely larger than the basic 5W chargers phones used to ship with, and why it runs cooler while doing it. For a single-device traveller, it can be the only charger in the bag.

A display that tells you what is happening

The front screen is not just decoration. Its LED face changes colour with the charging state, moving through its colours as the connected device draws different levels of power, so a glance tells you whether a phone is fast charging, charging normally or finished and idling. It removes the familiar guesswork of anonymous white bricks, where the only way to know if fast charging engaged is to watch the battery percentage crawl. Screen stickers are included if you want to customise the face further.

Protocol support and safety

The Retro 35 speaks the protocols modern devices actually negotiate, including USB Power Delivery 3.0 with PPS, Quick Charge 4.0, Apple 2.4A, SCP, FCP, AFC and PE, so phones from different brands each get their proper fast-charge mode rather than a lowest-common-denominator trickle. Built-in protections guard against overheating and short circuits, and the charger manages output to avoid stressing the connected battery. Use a good USB-C cable rated for the power involved and the charger does the rest automatically, with no settings to learn.

Travel and everyday use

The prongs fold flat, the input accepts 100-240V at 50/60Hz, and at about 55 g it adds almost nothing to a bag. At home it sits happily on a desk or nightstand, where the retro styling earns its keep every day; on the road it replaces a phone charger, a tablet charger and an emergency laptop charger in one object. It has one port, so it suits people who charge one main device at a time rather than a whole family of devices at once.

If your charger lives in plain sight and you are bored of anonymous bricks, the Retro 35W is the rare accessory that is both a conversation piece and a properly specified 35W GaN fast charger.
