Description
AVMATRIX SC2030 SDI/HDMI Up-Down Cross Converter
The AVMATRIX SC2030 is a scaling cross converter for SD and HD production workflows, built to convert between SDI and HDMI while changing resolution and frame rate along the way. It accepts one SD/HD/3G-SDI input and one HDMI Type A input, and delivers the converted signal simultaneously to one HDMI output and two SD/HD/3G-SDI outputs, so a single conversion can feed both a monitor and a recorder or switcher. A separate 3.5 mm analogue audio input can be embedded into the output, which makes the SC2030 a practical bridge between cameras, computers, switchers and displays that were never designed to speak the same format.
Key features
- Cross conversion between SDI and HDMI in both directions
- Up and down scaling with frame rate conversion, output up to 1080p60
- One SDI input, one HDMI input, one HDMI output and two SDI outputs
- Analogue audio embedding from a separate 3.5 mm line input
- Configuration by built-in DIP switches or from a PC over micro USB
- Compact metal unit drawing only 4 W, powered by micro USB or a locking DC connector
Conversion and format support
The SC2030 works across the SD and HD format family. On the SDI side it accepts 1080p, 1080i, 1080PsF, 720p and standard-definition 625i and 525i signals, including the fractional broadcast frame rates used in production. HDMI input support covers 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 576p, 576i and 480i formats. The output can be set independently of the input, with 1080p, 1080i and 720p output formats available, so a 720p camera can feed a 1080p switcher, or a 1080p computer output can be converted down for an HD-SDI recorder. SDI operation complies with SMPTE 292M, SMPTE 259M and SMPTE 424M, with YUV 4:2:2 colour precision on SDI and RGB 4:4:4, YUV 4:2:2 and YUV 4:4:4 support on the HDMI input. This is an SD, HD and 3G-SDI device; it is not a 12G-SDI or 4K converter, and systems built around UHD formats need a different model.
Audio embedding and everyday control
Productions often need picture from one device and sound from another, for example a camera feed with commentary or playback audio arriving from a separate mixer. The SC2030’s analogue audio input exists for exactly that case: connect a line-level stereo feed on the 3.5 mm socket and it is embedded with the converted video. Day-to-day setup is handled by DIP switches on the unit itself, so the most common format changes need no computer at all. When finer control or a firmware update is required, the micro USB port connects the converter to PC software. The same micro USB connection can power the unit at 5 V, while a threaded locking DC connector accepting 6 to 23 V suits fixed installations where a vibrating or knocked cable must not interrupt a live feed.
Built for broadcast and AV work
At 125.5 by 104 by 24.5 mm and 485 g, the SC2030 sits unobtrusively behind a monitor, inside a rack shelf or alongside a switcher, and its minus 20 to plus 60 degree operating range suits it to OB work and unheated equipment rooms as well as studios. Typical jobs include converting an HDMI laptop or camera output to SDI for a broadcast switcher, turning an SDI camera feed into HDMI for a confidence monitor while looping SDI onward, and normalising mixed-format sources to one house standard before recording. Because both SDI outputs carry the converted signal, one box can serve the programme chain and a monitoring chain at the same time.
If your workflow mixes SDI and HDMI equipment at SD or HD resolutions, the AVMATRIX SC2030 handles the interface change, the scaling and the audio embedding in a single compact unit. Set the output format your destination expects, confirm picture and embedded audio through the whole chain, and the converter gets on with its work quietly in the background of the production.
