Behringer HPM1000 Wired Stereo Headphones

Behringer HPM1000 Wired Stereo Headphones

The Behringer HPM1000 is a wired, over-ear stereo headphone built as an affordable all-rounder for monitoring, practice and everyday listening. Its 40 mm capsules cover a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response with a high dynamic range, the closed oval ear cups sit around the ears, and the cable is single-sided so it leaves the headphone on one side only — a small detail that matters at a mixing desk or an instrument, where a cable draping across your arms gets in the way. It connects with a standard 3.5 mm stereo plug, and a 6.3 mm adapter is included for consoles, interfaces and amplifiers with full-size headphone sockets.

Key features

• 40 mm dynamic capsules with 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response
• 105 dB sensitivity at 1 kHz — easily driven by phones, interfaces and mixers
• 32 ohm impedance suits portable players and studio headphone outputs alike
• 100 mW maximum power handling
• 2 metre single-sided cord resists tangling and keeps one side clear
• 3.5 mm stereo plug with 6.3 mm adapter included
• Oval-shaped ear cups with a comfortable, adjustable headband

Made for monitoring work

The HPM1000’s job is honest, usable sound for checking recordings, tracking parts and practising, rather than the tuned-for-excitement response of a lifestyle headphone. Behringer describes its capsules as high-resolution with a high dynamic range, and the figures behind that are practical ones: 105 dB of sensitivity means even a modest headphone output reaches a working level without strain, and 32 ohms of impedance means the same pair behaves itself plugged into a laptop, an audio interface, a keyboard or a mixer. The maximum power handling of 100 mW is comfortably above what those sources deliver.

Comfort and cabling

The ear cups are oval rather than round, following the shape of the ear, and the headband is padded and adjustable — the two things that decide whether a headphone is still comfortable at the end of a long session. The cord is 2 metres long and enters one ear cup only, so it falls to one side of a chair or a music stand instead of across the player’s hands. Because the connection is a plain analogue plug, there is nothing to charge, pair or update: plug in and listen, on equipment of any age that has a headphone socket.

Where it fits

Home studios keep headphones like these as tracking and second-reference pairs; music students use them for keyboard and guitar practice through an amplifier’s headphone output; and they serve equally well as a dependable spare pair for a desk, a media player or a shared workstation. The closed ear cup design gives a degree of physical separation from room noise, though it is a passive enclosure, not electronic noise cancellation. Treat the result as what it is: a simple, widely compatible wired headphone whose specification has kept it in Behringer’s range for years.

For everyday monitoring and listening through a standard headphone socket, the HPM1000 covers the essentials — 40 mm capsules, a full-range response, an adapter for studio sockets and a cable that stays out of the way.
