Sennheiser HD 450BT Wireless Headphones (Black)

The Sennheiser HD 450BT is a closed-back, around-ear wireless headphone built around a 32 mm dynamic transducer and Sennheiser’s active noise cancellation. This is the black variant (Sennheiser article 508386) of a folding travel headphone that pairs Bluetooth 5.0 wireless listening with a wired fallback, a built-in microphone for calls, and up to 30 hours of operating time from a single charge. The rated frequency response of 18 Hz to 22,000 Hz and a sound pressure level of 108 dB describe a headphone tuned for full-range music playback rather than a narrow call-only band.

High-quality codec support is central to the design. Alongside standard SBC, the HD 450BT supports AAC and aptX, including aptX Low Latency, which reduces the delay between picture and sound when watching video on a compatible source device. Bluetooth profiles cover music streaming, hands-free calling and remote control (A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, HSP), so the same headphone moves between a phone, a laptop and a tablet without extra hardware.

Key features

• Active noise cancellation for travel, commuting and office use
• Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX, aptX Low Latency, AAC and SBC codec support
• Up to 30 hours operating time, charged over USB-C in about 2 hours
• 32 mm dynamic transducer, closed-back around-ear design
• Frequency response of 18 Hz to 22,000 Hz

Active Noise Cancellation, Explained

Active noise cancellation uses microphones to sample the sound around the listener and generates an opposing signal that reduces steady ambient noise before it reaches the ear. It is most effective against the continuous low-frequency sounds of travel and buildings: aircraft cabin drone, train rumble, air conditioning and office hum. The closed ear cups add passive isolation on top, blocking a portion of higher-frequency sound physically. The result is that music can be played at a lower, more comfortable volume in noisy places, because it no longer has to compete with the environment.

Sound Tuning and the Smart Control App

Sennheiser’s Smart Control app connects to the HD 450BT to adjust the sound to personal taste through an intuitive equalizer, from added bass weight to a flatter, more natural presentation. The app also carries a podcast mode that optimises the settings for spoken content such as podcasts and audiobooks, shows battery status, and handles firmware updates, so the headphone’s features can be maintained and configured from the phone it is already paired with. A dedicated button on the ear cup gives direct access to the voice assistant on the connected device.

Everyday Use and Portability

The headband folds and the ear cups fold flat, so the headphone packs down into its carry case for a bag or a drawer. At 238 g it is light enough for long listening sessions and full working days of calls, using the dual beamforming microphone, which focuses on the voice and is rated from 80 Hz to 6,000 Hz. When the battery is empty or a source has no Bluetooth, the included audio cable (1.5 m, angled 3.5 mm adapter) keeps it working as a wired headphone.

The HD 450BT suits listeners who want Sennheiser sound, effective noise cancellation and long battery life in a folding over-ear format for travel, commuting and home listening. Full technical specifications for the Sennheiser HD 450BT are listed in the Additional Information table on this page.
