Sony MDR-ZX110AP On-Ear Headphone (White)

A 30 mm dynamic driver, an in-line microphone and remote, and earcups that swivel flat for storage cover the daily brief for commuters, students and anyone who wants a dependable spare headphone that works with every device that still offers a 3.5 mm socket.

Sound that favours the music

Sony tunes the ZX series for enjoyable everyday listening: present bass, clear vocals and enough top-end detail for streamed music, podcasts and video. The rated response of 12 Hz to 22,000 Hz reaches beyond the audible band at both ends, and the closed on-ear design gives a degree of passive isolation from room and street noise while keeping the headphone compact. With 98 dB/mW sensitivity and a 24 ohm impedance, phones, tablets, laptops and handheld consoles all drive it to full volume without strain.

The wired advantages

A cable sounds like a compromise until the wireless set runs flat mid-journey. The ZX110AP has zero latency, which keeps dialogue and game audio in step with the picture, never needs charging, and works in aeroplane seats and with older equipment that Bluetooth never reached. The in-line remote handles calls and track control, and the microphone makes it a working headset for online classes, office calls and voice chat, not just a listening device. The L-shaped plug sits flatter against a phone in a pocket and takes strain off the socket.

Carry it anywhere

The swivelling earcups fold the headphone flat, so it slides into a laptop sleeve, a desk drawer or the side pocket of a bag without the bulk of a folding headband design. At around 120 g it is light enough to forget on long listening sessions, and the cushioned earpads keep the on-ear fit comfortable. In White, this version keeps the clean look of the design at its most visible, and it is the headphone that can live permanently in a work bag, be lent without anxiety, and still be working years after fancier wireless sets have needed new batteries.

No charging, no pairing, no latency, and a microphone when a call lands: the MDR-ZX110AP is the wired headphone as it should be, ready the moment it is plugged in.
