Hawk PS02 Microphone Pop Filter

Hawk PS02 Microphone Pop Filter

The Hawk PS02 is a microphone pop filter: a dual-layer mesh screen on a flexible gooseneck arm that clamps to a microphone stand and sits between the singer or speaker and the microphone. Its job is specific and essential. Plosive sounds, the bursts of air behind P and B consonants, hit a microphone capsule as a low-frequency blast that no amount of editing fully repairs. The PS02 breaks that blast up before it arrives, while letting the voice itself pass through, so vocal takes come out clean at the source.

Key features

• Dual-layer mesh screen for plosive reduction
• Flexible gooseneck arm for exact positioning
• Clamp mount fits standard microphone stands
• Passive accessory: no power, no settings
• Helps protect the microphone capsule from breath moisture
• For vocals, podcasting, streaming and voice-over

Why two layers matter

A single screen slows a plosive down; two layers finish the job. The first mesh layer diffuses the initial burst of air, spreading it out and dropping its speed, and the second layer catches the residual energy that gets through. What reaches the capsule is the voice, with its consonants intact but their explosive edge removed. The practical result is fewer ruined takes, less corrective EQ and de-plosive processing in the mix, and recordings that need less work to sound finished.

Positioning is the technique

The gooseneck arm is what makes the PS02 usable on any setup. Clamp it to the microphone stand, bend the arm so the screen sits a few centimetres in front of the capsule, and keep a similar distance between mouth and screen. That small air gap is where the filter does its work, and the flexible arm holds the position through a session without sagging or needing constant adjustment. Because the mount is a standard stand clamp, the same filter moves between a home studio desk setup, a rehearsal room and a streaming rig in seconds.

Protection as a side benefit

Close vocal work sends breath moisture toward the capsule with every line, and over time that moisture is unkind to microphone diaphragms, especially on condenser microphones. The screen intercepts most of it. On shared microphones, in studios, classrooms and houses of worship, the filter is also a hygienic barrier that is far easier to clean or replace than a microphone. It is a passive part with nothing to charge, configure or update: fit it once and it works every session. Podcasters recording at a desk, singers tracking at home and voice-over artists working to a deadline all lean on the same simple arrangement, because it solves the problem before the recording starts rather than after it ends.

Clean vocals start before the microphone. The Hawk PS02 handles the oldest problem in vocal recording with two layers of mesh, a gooseneck and a clamp, and asks for nothing in return.
