The Ahuja AUD-98XLR is a wired handheld microphone for general public address work: speeches, announcements, classes, places of worship, karaoke and small events. It uses a unidirectional dynamic cartridge with a high-output neodymium element, so it needs no battery or phantom power and connects directly to the microphone input of a PA amplifier or mixer. Pickup pattern and feedback control

A unidirectional microphone picks up sound mainly from the front, where the speaker’s mouth is, and rejects more sound from the sides and rear. In a hall that matters: loudspeakers placed in front of the audience contribute less to feedback when the microphone points away from them. Hold the microphone a few centimetres from the mouth, speak across it slightly off-axis to soften breath noise, and keep it behind the loudspeaker line. If ringing starts, lower the amplifier gain before reaching for tone controls.

Cartridge and sound

The neodymium cartridge gives a healthy output level, and the 2.5mV/Pa sensitivity with 600 ohm impedance matches the microphone inputs of typical PA mixers and amplifiers. The 50Hz to 15,000Hz response covers the full speech range with room for vocals and music at small functions. Dynamic microphones are also tolerant of loud voices and close use, which makes this type forgiving for untrained speakers who move towards and away from the microphone.

Cable, connector and holder

The supplied 6-metre cable gives enough reach between a lectern or small stage and an amplifier placed to one side. Its twin-core shielded construction helps keep hum and interference low, and the 3-pin XLR connector locks positively into mixer and amplifier sockets.
