Sennheiser EW 512P G4 Camera Wireless System

Sennheiser EW 512P G4 – 500-Series Camera Wireless With the MKE 2

The EW 512P G4 is Sennheiser’s professional portable wireless system from the evolution 500 G4 range: an EK 500 G4 camera receiver and SK 500 G4 bodypack transmitter, supplied with the broadcast-standard MKE 2 omnidirectional lavalier microphone. It is the step up from the 100 series for productions where the RF link cannot be the weak point.

The 500 series differences are practical: increased transmission power options for hostile RF environments, a wider switching bandwidth for finding clean spectrum in crowded cities, metal housings on both units, and up to 32 channels per range. Battery life covers a full shooting day, and the backlit displays stay readable in sunlight.

Why 500 series, honestly

Camera wireless fails in predictable places: city centres saturated with RF, venues with dozens of active channels, and long shots where the talent walks away from the receiver. The EW 512P G4 answers each with hardware rather than hope – more transmit power when the link needs it, more tuning range when the spectrum is crowded, and a receiver designed for professional camera mounting and audio interfacing. The MKE 2, meanwhile, is the lavalier that production sound mixers specify by name for dialogue.

On the shoot

The bodypack pairs with the receiver by infrared sync, frequencies scan and select through the menu system, and the system integrates with Sennheiser’s G4 ecosystem for larger multi-channel rigs. For ENG crews, documentary teams and wedding filmmakers working uncontrolled environments, that combination of speed and RF headroom is the product.

Who the EW 512P G4 suits

Choose the EW 512P G4 for professional video production where wireless reliability is non-negotiable: broadcast ENG, documentary, corporate film and high-end event coverage. Occasional users in quiet RF environments may be served by the 100 series; working professionals in cities should start here.

In the kit bag

The system ships with the receiver, bodypack, MKE 2 with its clips and windshield, and the cables to reach a camera’s audio input – a working kit rather than a starter puzzle. Productions typically add a pouch for the bodypack and spare batteries to the run bag. Because the EW 512P G4 shares accessories and frequency planning with the wider G4 family, rental houses and in-house kits standardise on it easily; a receiver borrowed for a big day speaks the same language as the one you own.
