Description
Arturia KeyLab Essential 49 MK3 White MIDI Keyboard Controller
The Arturia KeyLab Essential 49 mk3 in White is a 49-key USB MIDI keyboard controller built to make software instruments and DAW production feel hands-on rather than mouse-driven. It combines a velocity-sensitive synth-action keyboard with eight RGB pads, nine encoders, nine faders, a 2.5-inch LCD screen and dedicated transport control, all in a slim desktop format that is bus-powered over USB-C. Arturia’s design centres on two linked workflows: playing and browsing instruments, especially through its Analog Lab software, and controlling a DAW session, with deep integration for major DAWs and for Arturia’s own instruments. This is the White finish of the 49-key mk3 model, with the same control layout and connections as the black version.
Key features
- 49 velocity-sensitive synth-action keys in White finish
- 8 RGB pads with velocity and pressure sensitivity, in two banks
- 9 rotary encoders and 9 faders in a familiar mixer layout
- 2.5-inch LCD with context buttons and push encoder for browsing
- Deep DAW integration plus NKS support for compatible instruments
- Bundled software including Analog Lab V and Ableton Live Lite
Keyboard, pads and creative tools
The 49 full-size keys give four octaves of playing range, enough for two-handed parts, bass lines and chord work without constant octave shifting, while transpose and octave buttons extend the reachable range when needed. Pitch bend and modulation wheels sit in the conventional playing position for expressive control. The eight pads are velocity and pressure sensitive and backlit in RGB, with a bank switch that expands them to sixteen assignable slots for drums, clip launching and triggering. Built-in creative functions include an arpeggiator, chord mode, scale mode and a hold function, which help generate patterns, keep harmony in key and sustain notes without a pedal. These tools operate from the hardware, so ideas can be developed at the keyboard rather than programmed note by note on screen.
Display, browsing and instrument control
The 2.5-inch LCD is central to the mk3 update. Together with four context-sensitive buttons and a push encoder, it shows preset names, parameter values and control status, allowing instruments in Analog Lab to be browsed and adjusted from the controller itself. Analog Lab V provides access to more than 2,000 presets drawn from Arturia’s instrument collection, and the encoders and faders map to the key parameters of the selected sound. NKS support extends direct control to compatible third-party instruments and effects that follow that standard. For producers who move between many plug-ins, that combination reduces the break in concentration caused by reaching for the mouse for every adjustment.
DAW integration and session control
Beyond instrument control, the KeyLab Essential 49 mk3 is prepared for integration with Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Cubase and Bitwig Studio, with Mackie MCU and HUI support for broader compatibility. A transport section with eight buttons and four DAW function buttons covers play, record and session navigation, while the nine faders follow a mixer layout suited to track levels and the nine encoders suit pan and plug-in control. A dedicated button selects the MIDI channel. All controls can be configured through Arturia’s MIDI Control Center software for custom mappings. The result is a controller that can stay at the centre of a session from first sketch to mix adjustments.
Connections, power and bundled software
Connection to a computer is by USB-C, which also supplies bus power, so no separate mains supply is required for normal use. A 5-pin DIN MIDI output allows the keyboard to control external hardware synthesizers and modules, and a single multi-functional pedal input on a 6.3 mm TRS jack accepts a sustain pedal, footswitch or expression pedal. The unit measures 790 by 240 by 70 millimetres and weighs 2.76 kilograms. The included software package, as listed for this model, comprises Analog Lab V, Ableton Live Lite, UVI Model D grand piano and Native Instruments The Gentleman, with a two-month Loopcloud subscription and a Melodics trial with bonus lessons. Exact bundle contents can change over time, so the licences supplied with the unit should be checked on registration.
For producers who want a full-size keyboard, pad control, mixer-style faders and screen-based browsing in one affordable desktop controller, the KeyLab Essential 49 mk3 White covers playing, sound selection and DAW control without requiring a separate control surface.
