Novation LAUNCHKEY 49 MK3 USB MIDI Keyboard Controller
The Novation LAUNCHKEY 49 MK3 USB MIDI Keyboard Controller is a full-size, fully integrated MIDI keyboard controller for making tracks in Ableton Live and with external hardware. With forty-nine velocity-sensitive keys, sixteen RGB backlit pads, eight rotary knobs and nine 45 mm faders, it adds genuine mixer control to the MK3 workflow, so levels, sends and device parameters can be shaped from hardware while playing. Deep Ableton Live integration, including Capture MIDI, track arm, quantise, click and loop controls, keeps sessions moving without constant mouse work.
Why Choose Novation LAUNCHKEY 49 MK3 USB MIDI Keyboard Controller?
The Launchkey 49 MK3 is chosen because it is the MK3 sweet spot for many studios: four octaves of keys for two-handed playing, plus faders that the smaller MK3 models do not offer. Scale and Chord modes keep playing in key and turn single fingers into full chords, the arpeggiator with mutate and deviate options generates melodic movement, and four custom modes, configured in Novation Components, map knobs, faders and pads to any software or hardware. The full-size five-pin MIDI output means the same creative tools can drive hardware synths and drum machines standalone, making it a centrepiece for hybrid setups.
Key Features
49 velocity-sensitive keys: four octaves of synth-action keys for expressive two-handed playing.
Nine 45 mm faders: hands-on mixer control for levels, sends and device parameters.
16 RGB backlit pads: velocity-sensitive pads for drums, samples and clip launching.
8 rotary knobs: control of mixer functions and instrument and effect parameters.
16×2 character screen: a clear display showing the parameter or state under control.
Five-pin MIDI output: a full-size MIDI DIN output for controlling hardware synths and modules.
Best Suited For
The Launchkey 49 MK3 suits producers who want a full-size keyboard with real fader control, Ableton Live users who mix as they write, and performers who need a reliable, expressive controller for studio and stage. It also suits hybrid-studio owners who want Scale, Chord and arpeggiator control over external hardware.
Setup and Connection Guide
Connect the Launchkey 49 MK3 to your computer over USB; it is bus powered, so no separate power supply is needed for computer use. In Ableton Live 10 or later, the dedicated controls for Capture MIDI, track arm, quantise, click and loop work out of the box, and full integration is also provided for Logic and Reason, with HUI support for Studio One, Cubase, Pro Tools and other DAWs. For hardware, connect the five-pin MIDI output to your synth or module and use the onboard Scale, Chord and arpeggiator tools standalone. Use Novation Components to configure four custom modes, and connect a sustain pedal to the quarter-inch jack socket.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do the faders add over the 37-key MK3?
The 49-key MK3 adds nine 45 mm faders with fader buttons, giving hands-on mixer control for levels and sends that the 37-key model, which relies on knobs alone, does not offer.
Can it control hardware without a computer?
Yes. The Launchkey 49 MK3 works standalone: Scale and Chord modes, the arpeggiator and custom modes can control hardware through the five-pin MIDI output.
What software is included?
Ableton Live Lite is included, together with virtual instruments and effects bundles listed for this model, including Spitfire Audio LABS Expressive Strings, XLN Audio Addictive Keys and Klevgrand plug-ins.
