Novation LAUNCHPAD MINI MK3 Grid Controller for Ableton Live
The Novation LAUNCHPAD MINI MK3 Grid Controller for Ableton Live is Novation’s most compact 64-pad MIDI grid controller, built to put your Ableton Live session under your fingers. Its eight-by-eight grid of RGB pads mirrors the colours of your clips and scenes, so you can see what is playing, launch clips, and control stop, solo and mute without looking back at the screen. Powered and connected by a single USB-C cable, it fits in a bag and sets up in moments, making it a practical first grid controller and a portable second controller for experienced performers.
Why Choose Novation LAUNCHPAD MINI MK3 Grid Controller for Ableton Live?
The Launchpad Mini MK3 is chosen for its focus. It does one job well: clip and scene control in a footprint barely larger than a paperback book. The RGB pads give instant visual feedback that matches your session colours, the sixteen function buttons cover stop, solo and mute, and three custom modes, configured in Novation Components, let the same grid control other MIDI software and parameters. Because it is bus powered and class compliant, there is no power adapter and no separate MIDI interface to carry, and the included Ableton Live Lite means a new user can start making tracks straight away.
Key Features
64 RGB pads: an 8×8 grid that reflects your Ableton Live session colours for clip and scene launching.
81 RGB LEDs: bright visual feedback across the grid and function buttons.
16 function buttons: including stop, solo and mute controls for session management.
Three custom modes: configurable in Novation Components to control other MIDI parameters.
USB-C bus powered: a single USB-C connection for power and data, with no adapter needed.
Compact and portable: a 180 x 180 mm footprint that fits easily in a bag for mobile setups.
Best Suited For
The Launchpad Mini MK3 suits Ableton Live users who want tactile clip launching, beginners starting electronic music production, and performers who need a small, reliable grid for live sets. It also suits Logic Pro users working with Live Loops, and producers who want a dedicated clip controller alongside a keyboard controller.
Setup and Connection Guide
Connect the Launchpad Mini MK3 to your computer with the supplied USB-C to USB-A cable; it draws all its power over USB, so no adapter is required. Open Ableton Live version 10 or later, where the grid mirrors your session view, and use the scene and function buttons for stop, solo and mute. For other software, open Novation Components and configure one of the three custom modes to map pads and buttons to the parameters you need. The Kensington MiniSaver slot can secure the unit in shared or public spaces. Note that this model has no five-pin DIN MIDI port; it is designed for computer-based control over USB.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Launchpad Mini MK3 a keyboard?
No. It is a grid controller, not a keyboard: it has 64 pads for launching clips and scenes rather than piano-style keys, and it is used alongside or instead of a keyboard controller.
Are the pads velocity-sensitive?
No. The Mini MK3 pads are RGB pads for clip launching and are not velocity-sensitive, a deliberate choice that keeps the unit compact and focused on session control.
What software is included?
Ableton Live Lite is included, together with additional software instruments and effects bundles listed for this model, including AAS Session Bundle and Softube Time and Tone Bundle.
