Elgato HD60 X External Capture Card

Elgato HD60 X External Capture Card

The Elgato HD60 X is the external capture card streamers and creators standardised on: it passes your console or camera signal through to the TV at up to 4K60 with HDR10 and variable refresh rate intact, while sending a pristine 1080p60 (or 4K30) capture feed to the computer over USB 3.0. Play at full quality, stream at broadcast quality — no compromise on either side of the cable.

Key features

• Capture at 1080p60 HDR or 4K30; passthrough up to 4K60 HDR10
• Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) passthrough for tear-free play
• Ultra-low-latency USB 3.0 connection
• Works with OBS, Streamlabs and Elgato 4K Capture Utility
• Compatible with PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and cameras
• Plug-and-play UVC driver on Windows and Mac
• Compact external design — no PCIe slot needed

Passthrough is the product

Cheap capture cards force a choice: play at the capture resolution or accept lag and tearing. The HD60 X removes it. The HDMI signal loops through at up to 4K60 HDR10 with VRR, so the game on your TV looks exactly as it does without the card, while the USB feed gives your software a clean, synchronised capture for stream and recording simultaneously.

Creator workflow

As a UVC device it appears as a camera to OBS, Streamlabs, Zoom and Teams, so the same card serves a gaming stream, a DSLR-webcam setup and a product-demo recording. Flashback recording in the 4K Capture Utility buffers the last hour of gameplay, so the moment you forgot to record is still recoverable. It also captures HDR at 1080p60 for creators whose audience watches on HDR displays.

Who it suits

Console streamers get the full-quality play plus capture in one small box; laptop users get PCIe-class capture over USB; camera creators get a clean HDMI input for mirrorless streaming. If your content starts on an HDMI source, this is the dependable way into the computer.

Recording as well as streaming

Not every creator streams live. The HD60 X’s 4K30 capture gives YouTubers a master file with resolution to crop and reframe in the edit, while the 1080p60 HDR path suits gameplay channels whose audience watches on phones and HDR TVs. Because the card is a standard UVC device, it drops into editing-friendly software, video-conferencing and even machine-vision experiments without driver drama. The passthrough-first design also means the gaming setup stays intact when the computer is off — the console plays through to the TV exactly as if the card were not there.

For households, that dual life matters: the gaming rig by night, the school-presentation and family-video capture device by day, with one cable moved between them.

Choose the HD60 X if you capture consoles or cameras seriously: full-fat passthrough, honest capture specs and the software ecosystem every tutorial assumes you own.
