Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS650 – A 120-Inch Laser TV That Sits Inches From the Wall

The Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS650 replaces the big television rather than imitating a cinema projector. It is an ultra short throw laser projector: placed just below and in front of the screen, it throws a 4K PRO-UHD image of up to 120 inches from a distance measured in centimetres, not metres. Epson’s 3LCD laser engine delivers 3,600 lumens of colour and white brightness, Android TV handles streaming, and a Yamaha-tuned 2.1-channel sound system is built in – a complete big-screen setup in one cabinet, with no ceiling mount, no long cable runs and no shadows when someone walks past.

For living rooms that want a genuinely large picture without dedicating the room to it, this is the format that works: media unit, projector, screen, done.

3LCD and laser, explained in plain terms

Some projectors quote brightness for white light only, and colour comes out dimmer than the headline figure. Epson’s 3LCD design produces colour and white brightness at the same 3,600 lumens, so colourful content – sport, animation, games – stays as vivid as the spec sheet promises. The laser light source turns on to full brightness almost instantly, holds its output over years instead of dimming like a lamp, and is rated for up to 20,000 hours, which at typical evening viewing stretches well past a decade.

Sound by Yamaha is not an afterthought

Built-in projector speakers usually earn a recommendation to buy a soundbar immediately. The LS650’s Yamaha-designed 2.1-channel system, with a dedicated low-frequency driver inside the cabinet, produces sound with genuine body – dialogue is clear and film scores have weight. Many owners will happily stop there; those who later want full surround can feed an AV receiver or soundbar through the HDMI ARC connection and keep the one-remote experience.

Setup and everyday living

Position the LS650 on the media unit, align it to the screen or wall, and adjust – Epson’s setup tools help square the image, and an ambient light rejecting screen designed for ultra short throw projectors will lift contrast further in bright rooms. Because the image comes from below at a steep angle, ceiling lights interfere far less than with conventional projection. It suits apartments and family rooms where a 100-inch-plus television would dominate the wall and the budget.

If you want the scale of projection with the simplicity of a television – switch on, stream, watch – the LS650 is Epson’s answer, engineered as one tidy box.
