The ViewSonic M1+ G2 is an ultra-portable LED projector designed to be carried from room to room and set up in seconds. It weighs 0.7 kg and measures 151 x 126 x 40 mm, small enough to fit in a bag alongside a laptop. Inside, an LED light source, a built-in battery, Wi-Fi connectivity and stereo speakers from Harman Kardon combine into a self-contained entertainment and presentation unit that needs no separate source or speaker to get started.

Its native resolution is 854 x 480, with support for input signals up to Full HD 1920 x 1080. The fixed lens has a throw ratio of 1.2, producing images from 24 to 100 inches at distances of 0.64 to 2.66 metres, with a 38-inch image at one metre. That short throw suits small spaces where the projector sits on a bedside table or coffee table. Automatic vertical keystone keeps the picture rectangular when the unit is tilted, which happens often with ceiling projection. ViewSonic rates the colour performance with its Cinema SuperColor Plus technology, and the reflective nature of projection is gentler for long viewing sessions than a direct-view screen of similar size.

Smart features and audio

Wi-Fi connectivity supports wireless casting from phones and tablets on the same network, and the built-in app centre provides direct streaming without an external player. A phone can also act as a touch remote through the vCastSender app. For sound, the dual Harman Kardon speakers handle dialogue and music at small-room levels, while Bluetooth works in both directions: the projector can play audio from a phone as a Bluetooth speaker, or send its own audio to Bluetooth headphones for private listening. A 3.5 mm audio output is also provided.

Power, battery and everyday use

The internal battery removes the need to sit near a socket, and the specification lists 2.5 hours in normal mode and 3 hours in economy mode, with the manufacturer also quoting up to 6 hours in battery saving mode.
