Why Installers Carry a Nipper, Not Just Pliers

Combination pliers are built to grip, twist and pull; their cutting edges are a compromise that leaves wire ends splayed and cable ties finished with a sharp stub – the stub that slices a finger the next time someone reaches behind the rack. A nipper’s jaws meet precisely, so a trimmed cable tie sits flush with the bundle and a cut wire end stays round and ready to terminate. In electronics work the same precision matters at component level: leads are trimmed after soldering without jolting the joint, and in AV work it is the tool that finishes a cable loom neatly – cut speaker wire to exact length, snip the tie wraps holding a loom together, and strip back a damaged section to remake a termination.
