Driver technology in detail

The Clarity Cone diaphragm mixes paper with wood fibre, a construction DALI has refined over many generations. The fibres add stiffness and control resonance, which keeps the cone behaving predictably through the midrange where voices and most instruments live. Behind the cone, the SMC Essential system surrounds the pole piece area with the manufacturer’s soft magnetic compound, reducing the distortion mechanisms that can blur fine detail. The crossover hands over to the tweeter at 2,300 Hz, a point chosen to keep the transition between drivers coherent, so stereo imaging stays stable and voices remain locked between the two speakers.

Room placement and system building

DALI recommends placing the Sonik 3 between 5 and 50 cm from the rear wall, which gives useful freedom in real rooms: closer placement reinforces bass, while stands pulled slightly into the room favour imaging and depth. As a passive design it needs a separate amplifier or AV receiver, and the 25 to 150 watt recommendation covers most integrated amplifiers and home cinema receivers.
