Atlantic Technology IC-6HT Angled In-Ceiling Speaker

The Atlantic Technology IC-6HT solves the oldest problem in ceiling-based home theatre: a speaker mounted flat in the ceiling fires its sound at the floor, not at the audience. The IC-6HT is built specifically for the front left, centre and right positions of a theatre where wall space for conventional speakers does not exist. Its 6.5-inch woofer is mounted at a fixed 15-degree angle inside the housing, and its tweeter pivots independently by up to 30 degrees, so the front soundstage can be aimed at the seats from above. The ceiling itself all but disappears behind an ultra-thin bezel and a magnetic grille.

Key Features

• 15-degree angled woofer aimed at the listening area for front LCR duty
• 1-inch soft dome tweeter on a stable bridge mount, pivoting up to 30 degrees
• Frequency response of 45 Hz to 22 kHz with 88 dB sensitivity
• Tweeter level control and boundary compensation switch on board
• Ultra-thin bezel with magnetic, paintable grille
• Gold-plated connectors and a 202 mm cut-out for straightforward fitting

An angled front stage, not a downward afterthought

Front channels carry the centre of every film: voices, on-screen effects and the musical score’s leading edge. Mounting those channels in the ceiling only works if their output is redirected, and that is the IC-6HT’s entire reason for existing. The angled woofer housing points the midrange and bass toward the seating row, restoring the imaging and intelligibility that a straight-down speaker smears across the floor. Rotating the speaker assembly before locking it into place lets the installer set the aim precisely for the room’s geometry, and the pivoting tweeter then fine-tunes the top end independently.

Drivers and crossover

The woofer uses a mica-loaded polypropylene cone, a material chosen for its stiffness-to-weight balance, driven by a 1-inch voice coil on a vented pole piece with a bumped back plate for clean excursion. Above it, the 1-inch soft dome tweeter is ferrofluid cooled, uses a neodymium magnet, and sits on Atlantic’s stable bridge mount rather than a vibrating central pole, which keeps high frequencies clean at theatre levels. A 2800 Hz crossover with steep 18 dB per octave slopes hands over between the two, with over-power protection guarding the tweeter. The rated 45 Hz low end gives front channels genuine body, so male voices and effects sound anchored rather than thin.

Controls for real rooms

Two switches adapt the speaker to its position. The tweeter level control trims the high frequencies for reflective rooms with hard floors and glass, or lifts them in soft, absorptive spaces. The boundary compensation switch counters the mid-bass build-up that appears when a ceiling speaker sits within about a foot of a wall, returning the response to neutral.

Installation notes

The IC-6HT is a passive speaker needing 10 to 125 W per channel from an AV receiver or amplifier into its 6 ohm load. It fits a 202 mm ceiling cut-out, needs roughly 133 mm of mounting depth, and connects with gold-plated terminals. Plan positions from the seats backwards, confirm the cavity depth before cutting, and test channel routing at low volume before the grilles go on.

For theatres that must keep speakers out of sight without giving up a properly aimed front stage, the IC-6HT is the purpose-built answer in Atlantic’s ceiling range.
