Lithe Audio 01557 6.5″ Waterproof Ceiling Speaker

Lithe Audio 01557 6.5-inch Waterproof Ceiling Speaker

The Lithe Audio 01557 is a passive 6.5-inch in-ceiling speaker with an IP44 waterproof rating, made for bathrooms and other rooms where a normal ceiling speaker would be living with steam and splashes. It is a straightforward two-way design: a 6.5-inch polypropylene woofer with a white cone, a 0.75-inch titanium dome tweeter, 60 W RMS power handling and an 8 ohm impedance, behind a low-profile paintable grille that sits just 3 mm proud of the ceiling. Because it is passive, it connects to an external amplifier with ordinary speaker cable, which also makes it the natural partner speaker for Lithe Audio’s powered ceiling models and a simple addition to any existing multi-room or home audio system that needs a bathroom-safe zone.

Key features

• IP44 rated for bathroom and wet-area ceiling installation
• Passive design, works with any suitable external amplifier
• 6.5-inch polypropylene woofer with white cone
• 0.75-inch titanium dome tweeter
• 60 W RMS power handling, 8 ohm impedance
• Low-profile 3 mm paintable grille for a discreet finish

What IP44 means here

An IP44 rating certifies protection against solid objects larger than 1 mm and against water splashing from any direction. For a ceiling speaker, that is the relevant real-world test: steam condensing in a bathroom, splashes rising from a shower or bath, and the general humidity that slowly degrades paper cones and untreated parts. The 01557’s polypropylene cone is chosen with that environment in mind, since polypropylene does not absorb moisture the way paper-based cones can. Lithe positions its IP-rated models for bathroom zones away from direct water jets, so the speaker belongs in the ceiling over the room, not directly inside a shower enclosure where it would face sustained spraying.

Sound and specification

The two-way layout covers a rated frequency range of 55 Hz to 20 kHz, with a sensitivity of 90 dB at 1 W and 1 metre, which is efficient for a ceiling speaker and means modest amplifier power produces comfortable listening levels. Power handling is 60 W RMS into 8 ohms, comfortably matched to the per-channel output of typical multi-room amplifiers, AV receivers and Lithe’s own powered speakers, which can drive a passive partner like this one. The titanium dome tweeter handles the high frequencies, keeping speech and detail clear over the ambient noise of showers, extractors and running water that bathroom listening involves.

Installation and finish

The speaker fits a 210 mm ceiling cutout, with overall dimensions of 227 x 87 mm. Its grille is a low-profile design protruding only about 3 mm from the ceiling surface, and it can be painted to match the ceiling colour, so in a finished bathroom the speaker is close to invisible. Wiring is the standard passive arrangement: speaker cable from the amplifier or from a paired powered speaker, polarity observed, and the unit fixed into the cutout. No mains power, transformer or network connection is needed at the speaker itself, which keeps bathroom electrical work simpler than with a powered model.

For a bathroom, en-suite, kitchen or pool-adjacent room that needs music without risking a standard speaker, the Lithe Audio 01557 combines a certified IP44 build with the simplicity of a passive design.
