JBL Flip 7 Portable Speaker – Blue

JBL Flip 7 Portable Speaker – Blue

The JBL Flip 7 is the current generation of JBL’s best-known portable speaker, finished here in Blue. It keeps the Flip formula of a racetrack woofer, a separate tweeter and dual passive radiators, then updates almost everything around it: output rises, battery life stretches to 14 hours, Bluetooth moves to version 5.4, the waterproof rating improves to IP68, and Auracast support replaces the older multi-speaker system so the speaker can join broadcast playback with other Auracast products. JBL’s AI Sound Boost processing analyses the music in real time and adjusts the drive to the drivers, aiming for more output with less distortion from the same compact cabinet.

Key features

• 25 W RMS woofer and 10 W RMS tweeter output
• IP68 waterproof, dustproof and drop-proof construction
• Up to 14 hours playtime, plus up to 2 more hours with Playtime Boost
• Bluetooth 5.4 with Auracast multi-speaker support
• JBL AI Sound Boost for real-time sound optimisation
• 45 x 80 mm racetrack woofer, 16 mm tweeter and dual passive radiators

More output from the same idea

The driver layout is familiar but the numbers have moved. The 45 x 80 mm racetrack-shaped woofer now receives 25 W RMS and the 16 mm tweeter 10 W RMS, for a combined system output above the previous generation. Frequency response is rated at 60 Hz to 20 kHz, extending slightly lower than before, and the signal-to-noise ratio remains above 80 dB. AI Sound Boost works alongside the hardware: it reads the incoming signal and predicts driver movement, so the speaker can play louder and keep bass controlled instead of simply turning everything up until it distorts. Dual passive radiators at the ends of the cabinet reinforce the low frequencies the small woofer produces.

Battery and Playtime Boost

The lithium-ion polymer battery is rated at 17.28 Wh and delivers up to 14 hours of playback on a charge, depending on volume and content, with a full recharge taking about 2.5 hours. When the battery runs low and the music needs to continue, Playtime Boost trades some low-frequency output for efficiency and extends playback by up to two further hours, taking the maximum total to around 16 hours. That flexibility suits long days out, where the choice between full sound now and any sound later is a practical one.

Tougher: IP68 and drop-proof

The Flip 7 carries an IP68 rating, the highest dust and water protection in the Flip line, and JBL also rates the design as drop-proof. The cabinet keeps the fabric covering and reinforced housing of the series, and a push-lock accessory system with a carabiner in the box makes the speaker easy to clip to a bag or strap for carrying. At 183 x 70 x 72 mm it remains a one-hand, bottle-sized speaker that can stand upright or lie on its side on whatever surface is available.

Bluetooth 5.4, Auracast and the app

Wireless streaming runs over Bluetooth 5.4 with A2DP 1.4 and AVRCP 1.6 profiles. Auracast support means the Flip 7 can receive a broadcast stream shared with other Auracast speakers, or join a group playback setup, without the older proprietary pairing limits. The JBL Portable app, available for iOS and Android, provides sound customisation, settings and product support from the phone, and is also where features such as Playtime Boost are managed.

In Blue, the Flip 7 is the most capable Flip so far: more power, longer battery life, a higher protection rating and modern Auracast connectivity, in the same pocketable format the range is known for.
