Sonos Move 2 Portable Speaker – White

Sonos Move 2 Portable Speaker – White – Full Sonos Sound, Indoors and Out

The Move 2 is a portable speaker with a split personality, in the best sense. At home it sits on its charging base and behaves like any other Sonos speaker, streaming over Wi-Fi, grouping with the rest of the system and responding to voice control. Pick it up by the integrated handle and it becomes a rugged outdoor speaker with its own battery, Bluetooth connection and a cabinet built to shrug off dust, rain and the odd knock.

Sonos redesigned the acoustics for this second generation. Two angled tweeters replace the single tweeter of the original, so a single box now produces genuine stereo separation, and a precision-tuned midwoofer handles vocals and bass. It is aimed at listeners who want one speaker that covers the kitchen, the balcony, the garden and weekends away, without dropping to the thin sound of typical Bluetooth portables.

Key features

• True stereo playback from two angled tweeters and one midwoofer
• Three Class-D amplifiers, each tuned to its driver
• Automatic Trueplay tuning adapts the sound to wherever the speaker is placed
• Up to 24 hours of playback from the 44 Wh battery
• Wi-Fi 6 streaming with Sonos multiroom grouping and Apple AirPlay 2
• Bluetooth 5.3 streaming away from home
• IP56 rating protects against dust and high-pressure water streams
• Shock-absorbent build and an integrated carry handle
• Wireless charging base included, with USB-C charging as backup
• Sonos Voice Control and Amazon Alexa built in, with a hardware mic switch

Sound and tuning

The stereo tweeter arrangement gives the Move 2 a sense of width that mono portables cannot match: instruments separate, vocals sit in the middle and the soundstage survives being carried into another room. Automatic Trueplay uses the microphone array to read the surroundings and retune the output, so the speaker sounds balanced on a kitchen counter, against a garden wall or out in the open. Bass, treble and loudness can also be adjusted manually in the Sonos app.

Battery and durability

The 44 Wh battery runs for up to 24 hours of continuous playback, roughly double the first-generation model, and reduced idle consumption stretches standby time further. Dropped back on its base, the speaker recharges without cables to align. The IP56 rating, sealed controls and shock-absorbent materials mean it tolerates splashes by the pool, dust on a terrace and being moved around daily without cosmetic drama.

Connectivity and controls

On Wi-Fi it streams from the Sonos app and major services, groups with other Sonos speakers and takes voice commands. Away from the network, Bluetooth 5.3 pairs directly with a phone. The USB-C port can charge a phone on the go or accept a line-in source via the Sonos Line-In Adapter, sold separately. Capacitive touch controls on top handle playback and volume, and a switch on the back disconnects the microphones completely when privacy matters.

Buy the Move 2 in White if you want a single speaker that is a full member of a Sonos home system and a genuinely capable outdoor portable. It suits Sonos households most, but it also works as a standalone premium speaker for anyone who moves their listening between rooms and the outdoors.
