Nespresso Original Coffee Capsules

Nespresso Original Coffee Capsules

Nespresso Original coffee capsules are the companion consumable for Nespresso Original line machines: single-serve aluminium capsules, sealed until the moment of brewing, that turn ground coffee into an espresso or lungo with a layer of crema on top. Because each capsule holds a pre-measured portion, the result is consistent from the first cup of the day to the last, with no grinding, dosing or tamping to manage and no loose grounds to clean up afterwards. This listing is for Nespresso Original capsules. The listing does not state a specific blend, flavour or capsule count, so check the pack details shown on this page before placing them in a machine.

The Original capsule system

Nespresso built the Original line around a simple idea: the machine handles pressure, temperature and flow, while the capsule handles the coffee itself. The capsule is pierced, hot water is forced through the grounds under pressure, and the brewed coffee leaves through the capsule face into the cup. That division of work is why the system suits people who want cafe-style espresso at home without learning a portafilter routine. It is also why capsule and machine must match: Original capsules are shaped for Original line machines and do not fit Vertuo line machines, which read a barcode on a different, larger capsule format.

Espresso, lungo and everything between

Original line machines are set up around two core pour sizes: the short espresso and the longer lungo, with many machines also offering a smaller ristretto. The capsules themselves span a range of intensities and flavour profiles, from mild, lighter roasts suited to a first morning cup through to darker, more intense roasts that hold their character in milk-based drinks such as cappuccino and latte. Intensity in the Nespresso system is a guide to roast and concentration of flavour, not simply caffeine strength, so a higher number signals a bolder cup rather than a stronger stimulant effect.

Freshness, storage and daily use

The aluminium capsule and its sealed top foil keep oxygen away from the ground coffee inside, which is what allows a capsule opened months after packing to still brew with aroma intact. Store capsules at room temperature, away from heat and strong odours, and keep them in their sleeve or a dispenser so the foil faces stay undamaged. Used capsules collect in the machine’s internal container and are emptied in one go, which keeps the daily routine down to three actions: insert a capsule, close the lever, and press the button. For the most consistent results, run a short water-only cycle before the first cup of the day to warm the machine and rinse the brew path.

Compatibility check

These capsules fit Nespresso Original line machines, including the Essenza, Inissia, Pixie, Citiz, Lattissima and Creatista families and other machines built for the Original capsule format. They do not fit Vertuo line machines or professional Nespresso Pro machines, which use their own capsule formats. If a machine takes a large domed capsule with a barcode rim, it is a Vertuo model and needs Vertuo capsules instead.

For households and offices already running an Original line machine, these capsules keep the routine exactly as intended: sealed, portioned coffee, brewed in under a minute, with the machine doing the technical work and the capsule doing the flavour work.
