The Dyson Airwrap i.d. is a connected multi-styler and dryer in the Vinca Blue/Topaz finish, in the Curly+Coily attachment set. It dries and styles simultaneously using Coanda airflow rather than extreme heat, and connects to the MyDyson app over Bluetooth to build a personalised i.d. curl routine around your hair profile. Six styling attachments and a presentation case are included.

Styling with air, controlled heat

The Coanda effect is an aerodynamic phenomenon: a high-pressure jet of air following a curved surface attracts the hair around it. The Airwrap i.d. uses that effect to wrap hair around its barrel and across its brush surfaces, so styling comes from directed airflow rather than clamping plates or very hot metal. A glass-bead thermistor measures the airflow temperature over 40 times every second and regulates the heating element to keep it below 150°C. Negative ions in the airflow help reduce static. The result is a styler designed for regular use without relying on extreme heat to hold a shape.

What i.d. curl changes

Earlier Airwrap models left the timing of each curl to you. The i.d. version connects by Bluetooth to the MyDyson app, where a short quiz builds your hair profile. From that profile the machine runs a personalised curling sequence: it wraps, styles and then applies the cold shot for timed intervals matched to your hair, activated with a slide of the switch once the routine is set up. Heat and airflow adapt to the profile, and the app also carries styling guides, live settings and filter maintenance reminders.

The Curly+Coily attachment set

This Vinca Blue/Topaz set is the Curly+Coily configuration. The conical Airwrap barrel tapers towards the tip so curls can be formed closer to the root for a more defined result. The Wave+Curl diffuser works in two modes — dome mode without the prongs to enhance natural waves and curls, and diffuse mode with prongs for volume and texture at the root. The wide-tooth comb shapes and lengthens curly and coily hair as it dries, the firm smoothing brush smooths and controls thicker hair, the large round volumising brush adds body and shape, and the fast dryer takes hair from wet to damp or dry before styling. A filter cleaning brush and a larger presentation case that stores the machine and attachments complete the box.

Power and handling

The Dyson Digital Motor V9 uses a 13-blade impeller spinning at up to 110,000 rpm to generate 3.2 kPa of air pressure, which is what creates the Coanda effect at the attachments. Rated power is 1,300 W, and the machine itself weighs about 0.59 kg, light enough for the extended sessions that a full head of curls can take. Finish sections with the cold shot to set them, and clean the filter regularly as the app prompts.
