Sony PlayStation 5 Slim Console

Sony PlayStation 5 Console (Slim) — 1TB SSD with Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive

This is the PlayStation 5 in its slimmer second-generation body: the same AMD Zen 2 processor, RDNA 2 graphics and ultra-fast SSD as the launch console, in a design roughly 30% smaller and noticeably lighter at 3.2 kg. Unlike the Digital Edition, this model includes a built-in Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive, so it plays game discs, PS4 discs and 4K Blu-ray films as well as downloads. A 1TB SSD, a DualSense controller and the pre-installed ASTRO’s PLAYROOM complete the box.

Key features

• Built-in Ultra HD Blu-ray drive: play PS5 and PS4 game discs, borrow and lend games, buy pre-owned titles, and watch 4K Blu-ray movies and DVDs.
• Full PS5 performance: 8-core AMD Ryzen Zen 2 CPU and 10.3 TFLOPS RDNA 2 GPU with ray tracing.
• 1TB ultra-high-speed SSD: 5.5 GB/s raw read speed for near-instant loading, expandable with an M.2 NVMe SSD.
• 4K gaming at up to 120fps: HDMI 2.1 with 4K 120Hz, HDR and VRR support, plus 8K output for compatible displays.
• Tempest 3D AudioTech: object-based spatial audio through headphones or TV speakers.
• DualSense controller included: haptic feedback and adaptive triggers matched to the on-screen action.

Why the disc drive still matters

A disc is more than nostalgia. Physical games can be borrowed from friends, lent out when you finish them, and sold or traded in — none of which a download allows. Disc editions in India are also frequently discounted by retailers in ways digital prices are not, and a game installs from the disc itself, so only the update patch travels over your internet connection; on a slow or capped connection, that is the difference between playing tonight and playing next week. Add the Ultra HD Blu-ray player, and the same console doubles as a proper 4K movie machine for the discs already on your shelf, with DVD and standard Blu-ray support included.

The SSD is the real upgrade

The custom SSD reads data at 5.5 GB/s raw, and dedicated I/O hardware decompresses it on the fly, so games boot in seconds and fast-travel or level changes happen almost instantly. The 1TB capacity improves on the original console’s 825GB, giving a big library room to breathe. When it eventually fills, an open M.2 slot inside accepts a Gen4 NVMe SSD, expanding storage without slowing load times down.

Picture, sound and the controller

Connected to a 4K TV over HDMI 2.1, supported games run at up to 120 frames per second with HDR colour; variable refresh rate smooths out dips, and ray tracing renders reflections and shadows with real light behaviour. Tempest 3D AudioTech positions sound around you — rain overhead, footsteps behind — through ordinary headphones. The DualSense controller ties it together: precise haptics let you feel surfaces and weather, while adaptive triggers change resistance, from a bowstring drawing tight to a brake pedal under pressure.

If you buy games on disc, collect them, share them, or want one box that handles gaming and 4K film nights, this is the PS5 to buy. It does everything the Digital Edition does, and keeps the door open to the entire physical catalogue.
