The Dyson Supersonic is the original Dyson hair dryer, engineered around a small digital motor in the handle and a system that measures its own air temperature many times a second. Instead of relying on extreme heat, it dries with a fast, controlled jet of air, which helps protect hair from heat damage and preserve its natural shine. This is the Prussian Blue finish with copper accents, and it is the original Supersonic, not the later Supersonic Nural, so it does not include the Nural sensor-based scalp protect features.

Fast drying without extreme heat

The V9 motor is small enough to sit in the handle and fast enough to propel 13 litres of air per second through the amplifier. That airflow does the drying work, so the machine does not need the searing element temperatures of a basic dryer. Intelligent heat control closes the loop: a sensor measures the air temperature over 40 times every second and adjusts the heating element to hold the selected setting, preventing the temperature spikes that cause dullness, breakage and colour fade over time.

Settings for every hair type

Four heat settings cover the full range of routines, 100°C for fast drying and styling, 80°C for regular drying, 60°C for cooler drying and diffusing, and a constant cold 28°C, paired with three airflow speeds, from high for speed down to low for diffusing curls. The separate cold shot fixes a finished style in place. Negative ions in the airflow help reduce static, so hair sits smoother after drying instead of lifting with flyaway charge,.

Magnetic attachments

Five attachments are included for different hair types and finishes, and each one clicks on magnetically and rotates freely, so it can be repositioned mid-style without touching hot metal. The Flyaway attachment uses the Coanda effect to attract longer hairs over the top and hide shorter flyaways underneath for a sleek finish, and is used on dry, straightened hair. The styling concentrator focuses the jet for section-by-section blow-drying, the diffuser disperses air evenly to define natural curls and waves with less frizz, the gentle air attachment softens the flow for fine hair and sensitive scalps, and the wide-tooth comb helps lengthen and shape curly and textured hair as it dries.

Balance, care and daily use

With the motor in the handle rather than the head, the Supersonic is balanced for one-handed use and comfortable through a full routine. The filter sits at the base of the handle and should be wiped clean monthly to maintain airflow. The India version is rated at 1380W for a 220-240V supply.
