The Elgato Heavy Clamp is the mounting foundation of the Elgato Multi Mount system: a heavy-duty clamp with a ball head that turns desks, shelves, poles and crossbars into solid mounting points for cameras, lights and microphones. Where a desk stand eats surface space and a floor stand eats room, the Heavy Clamp grips an edge or a tube and holds your gear exactly where you aim it. It is built around a thick aluminium frame and a steel torque screw, finished in black powder coating, and made to be trusted with the expensive items in a streaming, podcast or photo setup.

Why creators clamp instead of standing

Most desk setups fail on geometry, not equipment. A key light needs to sit high and angled down, an overhead camera needs to look straight at the desk, and a microphone needs to float in front of you without a stand base in shot. A clamp solves all three by using furniture and structures you already have. Grip the Heavy Clamp to a shelf above the desk for a top-down camera, to a lighting crossbar for a hair light, or to the desk edge itself as the base for a Master Mount pole. The ball head then sets the final angle in seconds.

Built to hold serious gear

Elgato builds the frame from aluminium plate between 10 and 12 mm thick and closes it with a steel torque screw, a combination chosen for grip strength and repeated use. The padded jaws protect wood and painted surfaces, while the grooves machined into the jaw faces stop the clamp rotating on round poles and tubes — the failure mode that makes cheap clamps feel unsafe. Four threaded holes give you options: move the ball head to the position that suits the job, or add a second accessory without buying another clamp.

Setting up well

Choose a rigid fixing point — a solid desk edge, shelf or tube that cannot flex under load — open the jaws fully, seat the pads flat, and tighten the torque screw firmly by hand. Fit the ball head or arm, mount the device, set the angle and lock the ball before letting go. Check the grip again after the first session, and re-check whenever you move the clamp to a new surface, since painted and padded edges compress differently.
