Tascam Ws-86 – Original Windscreen For Portacapture Series And Dr Series

Tascam WS-86 Windscreen: Cleaner Recordings for Portacapture and DR Series

The Tascam WS-86 is the original foam windscreen made to fit your recorder’s built-in microphones. It cuts wind noise and breath pops while keeping the detail of your recording intact.

Built for Recordings Ruined by Wind and Handling Noise

Even a light breeze can turn a handheld recording into a wall of rumble, and no amount of editing fully repairs it. Generic foam covers rarely fit correctly and can slip or muffle the sound. A purpose-made windscreen keeps your audio usable outdoors. Fixing wind noise in post-production takes time and often removes the very frequencies that make a voice sound natural. Prevention at the microphone is always the better route, and a windscreen is the simplest and most affordable way to do it.

What It Is

The WS-86 is a custom-designed windscreen for Tascam Portacapture series and handheld DR series recorders. It slips over the built-in microphones and is made from materials selected for audio use, reducing wind noise while maintaining sound resolution.

Key Features

• Made for Tascam recorders: A designed-to-fit shape means it sits securely over the microphones without adhesive or modification.
• Wind noise reduction: Softens gusts and airflow so speech and ambience stay clear outdoors.
• Audio-grade material: Preserves high-frequency detail rather than dulling the recording.
• Wide compatibility: Fits Portacapture X8 and X6, and DR-07X, DR-07MKII, DR-40X, DR-40, DR-44WL and DR-44WLB.
• Light and portable: Weighs only about 19 g, so it can stay on the recorder in your bag.
• Simple slip-on fit: No tools, adhesive or modification are needed, so you can fit it before a shoot and remove it just as easily.

Why undefined Stands Out

As an original Tascam accessory, the WS-86 matches the microphone layout of the recorders it supports. That means consistent coverage and less trial and error compared with universal covers. Because it is light and compact, it adds almost nothing to your kit, and it protects the microphone capsules from dust and stray moisture in everyday handling too.

Perfect For

• Interviews and field reporting outdoors
• Music rehearsals and location ambience capture
• Videographers using a Tascam recorder as a backup audio source

Best Suited For

Best suited for Tascam Portacapture and DR series owners who record outdoors or in drafty spaces and want a simple, dependable way to protect their audio. It is equally useful for podcasters recording on location, students capturing lectures, and musicians documenting open-air rehearsals.
