Ahuja SSB-80DFM Amplifier

Ahuja SSB-80DFM Amplifier

The Ahuja SSB-80DFM is a PA mixer amplifier with a built-in digital player, FM tuner, Bluetooth and remote control, built for public address in schools, places of worship, retail premises, offices and small halls. Its rated output is 80 watts RMS at 10 percent THD, with a maximum output of 110 watts, as specified in Ahuja’s catalogue. The DFM suffix identifies this digital-player variant of the SSB-80 platform: compared with the plain SSB-80M, the DFM version trades the larger input count for an integrated player section that adds FM radio alongside file playback and Bluetooth.

Key features

• 80 watts RMS rated output, 110 watts maximum
• Three microphone inputs and one auxiliary input
• Digital player with USB, SD and MMC card playback
• FM tuner and Bluetooth facility built in
• Speaker outputs for 4, 8 and 16 ohm loads, 70 volt and 100 volt lines
• AC mains operation with 12 volt DC battery backup
• Remote control for the digital player section

What the DFM player section adds

The defining feature of this model is its source section. The digital player reads MP3 files from USB storage and from SD and MMC cards, an FM tuner covers broadcast radio, and Bluetooth allows wireless playback from a phone or tablet. Together these cover the four ways a small venue actually plays programme material: recorded announcements or music on a card or pen drive, radio, a staff member’s phone, and a wired auxiliary source. Keeping all of it inside the amplifier means one box, one power connection and no separate tuner or player to wire, secure or replace.

Microphone and auxiliary inputs

Three microphone inputs, each rated at 1.0 mV into 4.7 kilohms, handle announcements, teaching, prayer and presentations, while one auxiliary input rated at 100 mV into 470 kilohms accepts a line-level source such as a computer, media player or another mixer. For many small installations this is the right balance: enough microphones for a principal speaker plus questions or a second presenter, without the cost and panel clutter of a larger mixer amplifier that would never be fully used.

Speaker outputs for direct and distributed systems

Low-impedance outputs at 4, 8 and 16 ohms suit direct connection to box speakers in a single room. For larger or multi-room layouts, the 70 volt and 100 volt line outputs support distributed ceiling and wall speakers fitted with line-matching transformers, allowing several speakers to be run over longer cable distances from one amplifier. This gives the SSB-80DFM a practical upgrade path: the same amplifier can serve a single hall today and a distributed layout later, simply by using the appropriate output.

Tone, power and installation

Bass and treble controls, each rated at plus or minus 8 dB at 100 Hz and 10 kHz respectively, let the installer trade warmth against speech intelligibility for the room in question. The frequency response is 65 to 15,000 Hz within 3 dB. The amplifier runs on 220 to 240 volt AC mains and on 12 volt DC from a car battery, so announcements can continue through a mains failure when a battery is connected. It measures W355 x H133 x D285 mm and weighs 8.43 kg, a manageable size for a shelf, counter or small equipment rack.

For venues that need microphones, radio, card and USB playback and Bluetooth in a single PA amplifier of honest, catalogue-rated output, the SSB-80DFM is a compact and complete choice.
