Onkyo TX-RZ30 AV Receiver

Onkyo TX-RZ30 – 9.2 Channels, Dirac Live and the RZ Series’ Serious Power Supply

The TX-RZ30 is the entry point to Onkyo’s RZ range, and it is built like one: a 9.2-channel AV receiver with 100 watts per channel, a high-current power supply and Dirac Live room correction included. Nine amplified channels drive a full 5.2.4 or 7.2.2 Dolby Atmos layout from a single box, and 11.2-channel processing with pre-amplifier outputs leaves the door open to external amplification later.

Dirac Live is the headline. Where basic auto-setup systems adjust levels and simple EQ, Dirac measures impulse response as well as frequency response and corrects both, tightening bass and imaging in real rooms. On a receiver at this level, it is the feature that separates good sound from calibrated sound.

Key features

• 9.2-channel AV receiver, 100 W per channel (8 ohms)
• Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding for 5.2.4 or 7.2.2 layouts
• Dirac Live full-bandwidth room correction included
• 11.2-channel processing with pre-outs for external amplifiers
• HDMI 2.1 with 8K/60 and 4K/120 pass-through, VRR and ALLM
• IMAX Enhanced certification
• Streaming via Wi-Fi, AirPlay 2, Chromecast and Bluetooth
• Works with Sonos for integration into Sonos systems
• THX-style high-current drive for demanding loudspeakers
• Zone 2 output for a second listening area

Why Dirac Live changes the result

Every room imprints itself on sound: walls reinforce some bass notes, cancel others, and smear timing with reflections. Dirac Live measures the system from the listening seat with the included microphone, then builds correction filters that address frequency and time behaviour together. Dialogue gains clarity, bass loses its one-note boom, and the surround field locks into a coherent bubble. It is the closest a receiver comes to professional room tuning without hiring the professional.

Gaming and video, fully current

The HDMI 2.1 stage passes 8K/60 and 4K/120 signals with variable refresh rate and auto low latency mode, so a PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X or gaming PC runs at full specification through the receiver. eARC returns full-quality audio from the television’s own apps, and the RZ30’s video path is transparent to HDR formats including Dolby Vision and HDR10 Plus.

Who the TX-RZ30 suits

Choose the TX-RZ30 for a dedicated theatre or serious living-room cinema built around nine channels now, with the option of external power amplifiers later. It suits buyers who value calibrated sound and a robust amplifier section over gimmicks, and who plan to keep their receiver through several display upgrades.

Set-up and the Dirac routine

Allow an unhurried first hour: connect speakers, run the Dirac Live measurement from the main seat and surrounding positions with the supplied microphone, and store the resulting curve before judging the sound. The RZ30’s on-screen setup walks through speaker configuration, and its test tones verify wiring before measurements begin. After calibration, most owners adjust only the Dirac target curve’s bass shelf to taste – the correction itself, once heard, rarely gets switched off.
