Four Evolution Preamps with APHEX Processing
The RodeCaster Pro II houses four identical Rode Evolution microphone preamps, representing a significant upgrade from the first generation. These preamps deliver 74dB of gain range, low noise, and transparent sound quality that reveals the full character of any microphone from dynamic broadcast mics to sensitive condensers. Each preamp channel includes Rode’s proprietary APHEX audio processing suite, comprising an Aural Exciter for adding presence and clarity, a Big Bottom processor for extending low-frequency weight, a compressor, a noise gate, a high-pass filter, and a fully parametric equaliser – all the tools required to achieve a polished, broadcast-quality sound directly from the console without requiring additional outboard processing or software plugins.
USB Audio Interface and Multi-Track Recording
The RodeCaster Pro II connects to a computer via USB-C and presents itself as a high-quality multi-track USB audio interface, with each input and output available as a separate track in any DAW or recording software. This makes it possible to record each microphone, each TRRS phone input, and each USB audio channel to its own individual track in the DAW for maximum post-production flexibility, or to record a pre-mixed stereo output for immediate broadcast. The interface supports sample rates up to 48kHz at 32-bit float depth, with the high bit depth providing extraordinary headroom that eliminates clipping concerns entirely during live recording sessions.
Programmable Smart Pads
Eight programmable SMART pads on the top surface of the RodeCaster Pro II can be assigned to trigger audio samples, sound effects, music beds, jingles, or pre-recorded segments with a single button press. These pads are invaluable for live podcast productions where producers want to drop in sponsor messages, intros, outros, and effects without interrupting the conversation. Each pad can be assigned to play back, loop, or latch, and the colour of the pad illumination changes to indicate its current state. The RodeCaster Pro II ships with a library of pre-loaded sound effects and music, and additional sounds can be loaded from the Rode Central companion software.
