Sonos Amp

Sonos Amp – 125 Watts Per Channel for the Speakers You Already Own

The Sonos Amp is a compact streaming amplifier that powers passive speakers with 125 W per channel at 8 ohms, while bringing them into the Sonos multi-room system. Bookshelf, floor-standing, in-wall, in-ceiling and outdoor speakers all become app-controlled streaming zones, with television sound added through HDMI ARC and analogue sources through a line-in connection.

That combination solves a common problem: good passive speakers that predate streaming, or architectural speakers installed around a home, left behind by modern sources. The Amp gives them the Sonos app, AirPlay 2 and the major music services, in a low-profile black box that fits a rack, a shelf or the inside of a cabinet, with touch controls on the front panel.

Passive speakers, modern streaming

The Amp treats your existing speakers as the investment and supplies everything they lack: streaming sources, multi-room grouping, per-room volume and EQ, and control from a phone instead of a remote drawer. A pair of quality bookshelf speakers in the living room and ceiling speakers in the kitchen can play the same service in sync or different music independently, each driven by its own Amp. Because the platform updates by software, the system gains features over time rather than dating the way a traditional receiver does. Touch controls on the unit itself cover play, pause and volume when a phone is not within reach.

Television and turntable, too

HDMI ARC turns the Amp into a clean two-channel television system: dialogue through real speakers instead of the panel, with the TV remote controlling volume. Add a powered subwoofer through the dedicated output, whose auto-detecting connection and adjustable crossover make integration straightforward, and the setup handles films convincingly. The line-in accepts a turntable with a phono stage, a CD player or any analogue source, and that source can then play across the wider Sonos system.

Who the Sonos Amp suits

Choose the Sonos Amp if you own, or plan to install, passive speakers and want streaming and multi-room control without a full-size AV receiver. It suits architectural speaker zones, outdoor areas, stereo systems built around favourite speakers, and tidy living rooms where the television needs better sound with almost no visible equipment.
