The Ahuja RMX 1700 is an installation PA mixer and preamplifier built into a standard 19 inch rack-mounting chassis. Input capacity for installed systems

Installed PA systems rarely serve a single microphone. A hall may need lectern, stage, choir and wireless microphones at the same time, plus music sources for intervals. The RMX 1700 answers with twelve balanced microphone inputs, each on a 6.3 mm phone jack that also accepts unbalanced signals, giving installers freedom in how microphones are wired. Two auxiliary inputs and a line input take additional sources, while the dual RCA CD input handles a CD player or similar stereo source as a permanent part of the rack.

The independent USB playback channel runs the built-in digital player, an MP3 player with USB, SD and MMC card reading, so routine music and recorded announcements can be played from removable media without tying up a microphone or line input. Because the USB channel is independent, the operator can set its level once and leave the microphone channels configured for speech.

Priority announcements and tone control

In schools, stations, factories and places of worship, one microphone must be able to override everything else. On the RMX 1700, MIC-1 has priority over all other inputs, so the announcement microphone ducks or overrides music and secondary sources automatically. Active bass, treble and master level controls then shape the combined output for the room, compensating for the brightness or boominess of the hall without an external equaliser.

Outputs for multi-amplifier systems

The four balanced line outputs, each on a 6.3 mm jack, are the feature that defines this mixer for installation work. One RMX 1700 can feed several power amplifiers or booster amplifiers at once, covering different zones or a large single space from one control point, with balanced wiring that resists hum and interference over long cable runs. A separate preamp output on a 6.3 mm jack provides a clean feed for a recorder, while the headphone output lets the operator monitor the mix before and during an event without listening to the room.

Rack installation and daily operation

The chassis follows the standard 19 inch rack format and measures 483 mm wide, 97 mm high and 274 mm deep, so it mounts alongside the amplifiers it feeds in a conventional equipment rack. Power requirement is 220-240V at 50/60 Hz AC. Once installed, daily operation is deliberately simple: sources are connected permanently, levels are set on the front panel, and the priority microphone is always ready.
