The Behringer XENYX 1002SFX is a premium analogue 10-input mixer with a stereo USB streaming interface and a built-in Klark Teknik effects processor, made for podcasters, streamers, musicians and small live setups. Two channels carry Behringer’s XENYX microphone preamps on balanced XLR inputs, four stereo line channels take keyboards, media players and other sources, and a stereo RCA stream input brings a phone, tablet or games console into the mix. The USB connection carries the finished stereo mix to and from a computer or mobile device, so the same board that mixes your microphone can feed your stream or recording software directly.

The last stereo channel, 9/10, switches automatically between its TRS inputs and USB playback, which simplifies monitoring: play backing tracks or game audio from the computer through the mixer, mix your voice over them, and send the combined result back over USB.

The XENYX preamps and channel EQ

The two microphone channels use discrete, balanced XLR inputs with an equivalent input noise of 132 dB A-weighted at 50 ohms and a frequency response extending from 10 Hz to 150 kHz at +10 dB gain — figures that keep noise inaudible and transients intact at normal recording levels. Each mic channel adds a 3-band EQ (low 80 Hz, mid 2.5 kHz, high 12 kHz, each plus or minus 15 dB), a low-cut filter for removing rumble and handling noise, an effects send and pan. The stereo line channels accept balanced TRS sources with up to +21 dBu maximum input level and offer balance, effects send and a gain boost for quieter devices.

Klark Teknik effects, ready to use

The built-in effects section provides 100 presets — reverbs, delays, chorus, flanger, pitch combinations and combined effects — generated by a Klark Teknik processor with 24-bit sigma-delta conversion. For a podcaster that means a touch of room reverb on a voice without plug-ins or outboard gear; for a singer, delay and reverb that follow the channel’s own effects send, so each source gets exactly as much effect as it needs.

Streaming and recording over USB

USB audio runs at 48 kHz and 16-bit in stereo in both directions and is UAC2 class compliant, so the mixer appears as an audio device on a computer without special drivers for standard use. The RCA stream input and output are the bridge to the analogue world: bring a console or phone in on RCA, and route the mix out the way your setup requires. Main outputs are impedance-balanced TRS with a maximum level of +21 dBu; the headphone output delivers up to +19 dBu into 150 ohms.

Power and practical use

The mixer consumes 15 W and runs from the supplied adaptor (100–240 V input, 18 V DC output), so it travels between home studio, rehearsal room and small venue without fuss. Set levels with the clip LEDs just flickering on peaks, add EQ only where a source needs it, and keep the USB return routing in mind so the computer’s output does not feed back into its own input.
