Low self-discharge, explained

Ordinary Ni-MH rechargeables lose charge quickly on the shelf, so a battery charged last month may be flat when needed. Eneloop’s low self-discharge design holds about 70 percent of its charge for up to 10 years under proper storage, which changes how the batteries can be used: remotes, clocks, torches and emergency equipment can run on rechargeables without the constant topping-up that older cells demanded. Cycle life and value

A rating of up to 2100 recharge cycles means one pack of four can replace a very large number of single-use AA batteries in high-drain and everyday devices. The cells can be recharged whether fully or partly drained, with no memory effect to manage, so topping up before a trip or an event is fine. A compatible Ni-MH charger is required and is not part of this pack; Panasonic chargers are recommended by the maker.
