MX3775 Ep Stereo Male 3.5mm

MX 3775 EP Stereo Male 3.5mm Connector

The MX 3775 is a 3.5 mm stereo male connector — a cable-mount plug for building and repairing the small-format audio leads that connect headphones, portable players, phones, computers and car and home audio inputs. The listing describes it as a full-metal plug with a chrome finish and gold-plated contacts, in TRS stereo configuration with solder termination. The 3.5 mm format is the most common analogue audio connection in everyday equipment, and it is also the one that wears out fastest, because portable cables are bent, pocketed and pulled daily. A replacement plug like the 3775 is how a good headphone or interconnect cable gets its original connector replaced, or how a custom lead is made to an exact length.

Key features

• 3.5 mm stereo male plug, TRS three-pole configuration
• Full-metal housing with a chrome finish
• Gold-plated contacts
• Solder termination
• Strain relief fitted at the cable entry
• Accommodates cables up to approximately 5 mm in diameter
• Fits standard 3.5 mm stereo jacks on portable and home audio equipment

Metal housing and gold-plated contacts

Small plugs fail in predictable ways: the body cracks, the shaft bends, or the contact surface wears and oxidises until one channel starts cutting out. The 3775 addresses the first two with a solid metal housing, finished in chrome — a body that resists the knocks a portable plug takes and holds the contact shaft true, so the plug inserts and removes smoothly with the positive retention the listing describes. The gold-plated contacts address the third failure: plating resists corrosion on the three contact bands of the TRS shaft, keeping contact resistance low so both stereo channels stay clean over repeated use. The metal body also provides shielding around the termination, which helps in the electrically noisy environments — cars, desks full of chargers, stage-side racks — where 3.5 mm leads commonly work.

Solder termination and strain relief

This is a solder-type connector: the left, right and common conductors of the cable are soldered to the corresponding points inside the plug, giving a fixed electrical connection that can be inspected before the housing is closed. The listing notes that a strain relief is included — a spring or rubber boot type depending on batch — fitted at the point where the cable leaves the plug. That detail matters more than it appears to, because nearly every portable cable failure occurs exactly there, at the flex point behind the plug. When you terminate the plug, keep the conductor lengths short, make sure no stray strand can bridge between the closely spaced contact points, and seat the cable properly in the strain relief so bending loads are taken by the relief and the cable jacket rather than by the solder joints.

Where the 3775 is used

The listing identifies custom aux cables, headphone repairs and audio interconnects as this plug’s work. Replacing the plug on a set of headphones whose cable is still sound is the most common job — the failure is almost always at the plug, and a solder-on replacement restores the headphones in minutes. Making aux leads to length for car audio and home setups is the second: a 3.5 mm lead built for the actual distance involved sits neatly instead of leaving excess cable coiled behind equipment. Interconnects between small sources and amplifiers — a DAC or player feeding an amp through a 3.5 mm to RCA lead, for example — use the same plug at the source end. The listing also notes stage use with in-ear monitor packs, where a robust metal plug is preferred over the moulded plug supplied with many cables. In each case compatibility is simply a standard 3.5 mm stereo jack on the device.

Fitting notes

Check your cable diameter against the approximately 5 mm the housing accommodates before starting; very thick portable cables may not seat in the strain relief. Work out the channel assignment before soldering — tip is conventionally the left channel, ring the right, sleeve the common — and test the finished lead on both channels before relying on it, moving the cable gently at the plug to confirm the termination is mechanically as well as electrically sound. If a device is used in a thick protective case, check that the plug body clears the case around the jack, as with any full-size plug. Kept in a repair kit, one or two of these plugs cover the most common small-audio repair there is.

The MX 3775 combines the standard 3.5 mm TRS format with a metal chrome body and gold-plated contacts, in a plug made for repairs and custom cables that are expected to last.
