The Neutrik NL8FC is the 8-pole speakON cable connector: the female cable-end plug that terminates an 8-core speaker cable for multi-way loudspeaker systems. Its eight contacts carry four independent positive and negative pairs down one cable, which is how bi-amped and multi-way professional speakers are fed from their amplifier racks. One cable, four channels of power

Multi-way loudspeaker systems split the signal at the rack: separate amplifier channels drive the low, mid and high sections of the cabinet. Running those as individual cables is untidy and error-prone. The NL8FC’s eight poles carry four pairs in a single cable and a single connection, so one plug connects a complete bi-amped or three- or four-way box, and the keyed, latching design means it can only connect the right way round.

A cable connector, not a panel socket

The FC in NL8FC marks it as the free cable connector: it terminates the cable itself, with a chuck strain relief that grips the cable jacket so the electrical contacts never take the mechanical strain. It mates with the 8-pole chassis connectors fitted to loudspeaker cabinets and amplifier panels. The twist-lock action is positive and audible, and it will not vibrate loose or pull out under the power levels and stage handling that shake lesser connectors apart, which is why speakON became the professional standard.

Wiring it

Strip and prepare the 8-core cable, terminate each conductor on its marked pole (1+/1- through 4+/4-), and follow the amplifier and cabinet manufacturers’ pin assignments exactly: a swapped pair inside an NL8FC will not announce itself until the system sounds wrong. The chuck relief accommodates cables from 8 to 20 mm outside diameter. Check continuity pole by pole before the cable joins the working stock.

A typical professional chain pairs NL8FC-terminated cables with amplifier output panels and cabinet inputs in the same 8-pole format, so a rack of amplifiers and a stack of multi-way cabinets connect with a handful of identical, interchangeable leads.
