Sound and noise cancelling

The 10 mm drivers deliver a 20 Hz to 40 kHz frequency response with the energetic, bass-forward character JBL is known for, and the app’s EQ lets you flatten or exaggerate that tuning to taste. True Adaptive Noise Cancelling 2.0 continuously reads the environment and your fit, adjusting cancellation strength automatically; battery figures show the cost of each mode clearly — up to 12 hours with ANC off, up to 10 hours with ANC on, and up to 8 hours in full True Adaptive mode. Smart Ambient passes outside sound through when you need awareness, TalkThru lowers the music and boosts speech for a quick conversation, and Voice Aware lets you hear your own voice naturally on calls.

The smart case

The redesigned case is the feature that separates the Live Beam 4 from conventional earbuds. Its display shows battery status and handles playback, volume, ANC modes, spatial sound, EQ presets and call management directly, and it can locate the earbuds through Google’s finder network. The case weighs 73 g, holds a 680 mAh battery good for up to 36 additional hours, charges over USB-C in about 2 hours, and also accepts Qi wireless charging. A 10-minute speed charge returns up to 4 hours of playback, which covers most commutes after a forgotten overnight charge.

Calls, fit and daily use

Six microphones — three per side working as a system — handle calls and noise reduction, giving up to 6.5 hours of talk time with ANC off. Each earbud weighs only 4.85 g, and four sizes of eartips are included to get the seal that both comfort and noise cancelling depend on.
