Jbl Wave Buds Light Blue

JBL Wave Buds Light Blue

The JBL Wave Buds are true wireless in-ear earbuds in a light blue finish, built around 8 mm dynamic drivers and JBL Deep Bass sound. The open bud-style design sits comfortably at the entrance of the ear, the earbuds are rated IP54 against dust and splashes, and the pocketable charging case takes total playtime to up to 32 hours. Smart Ambient modes, VoiceAware for calls, touch controls and the JBL Headphones app for personalising the sound make the Wave Buds a complete everyday set for music, calls and commuting.

Sound, fit and the bud design

The Wave Buds use a bud design rather than a sealed in-ear tip fit: the earbud rests at the ear with a shape intended to stay secure and comfortable without deep insertion or the pressure that some listeners dislike from silicone tips. JBL tunes the 8 mm drivers for Deep Bass sound, with a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, an impedance of 16 Ohms and a driver sensitivity of 100 dB at 1 kHz and 1 mW. The result is a full, bass-forward everyday sound for music, video and podcasts that remains easy to drive from any phone.

Because the fit is open rather than sealed, some awareness of the surroundings is natural with this design, and JBL builds on that with its ambient features rather than noise cancelling. The JBL Headphones app adds an equaliser so the bass weight and overall balance can be dialled toward personal taste, along with control customisation and other settings for the earbuds.

Battery, charging and weather resistance

On their own the earbuds play for up to 8 hours, and the charging case holds a further 24 hours, for a total of up to 32 hours before the case itself needs a charge. When time is short, a 10-minute speed charge adds about 2 hours of playback. A full charge of the system takes about 2 hours over the USB Type-C charging cable supplied in the box, and the case itself is rated IPX2 against dripping water.

The earbuds carry an IP54 rating, which covers dust protection and resistance to water splashes from any direction. That makes them a sensible choice for workouts, walks in changeable weather and daily commuting, where sweat and light rain are part of the routine. The rating applies to the earbuds under test conditions; the case should still be kept dry, and charging contacts should be dry before the buds go back in the case. Combined weight is 43 g including the 34 g case, so the set disappears into a pocket.

Ambient modes, calls and controls

Smart Ambient gives the Wave Buds two useful listening modes. Ambient Aware lets outside sound in while the music keeps playing, which suits streets and stations where awareness matters. TalkThru drops the music level so a conversation can happen without removing an earbud. On calls, VoiceAware controls how much of your own voice you hear back, and the built-in microphone supports hands-free stereo calls with either earbud configuration.

Touch controls on the earbuds handle playback, calls and ambient modes, Bluetooth 5.2 with multipoint keeps the earbuds connected to a phone and a laptop together, and three sizes of eartips are included in the box to settle the fit. In this light blue finish the Wave Buds keep the full specification of the range with a softer, more distinctive look than the standard black.

For listeners who prefer a comfortable bud fit over deep in-ear tips, the JBL Wave Buds in light blue combine Deep Bass sound, long total battery life, IP54 resistance and genuinely useful ambient modes in a set that is ready for the whole day.
