The Sony LinkBuds S are truly wireless earbuds engineered around all-day wear. At approximately 4.8 grams each, they were among the lightest noise-cancelling earbuds Sony had made, with a shape designed to sit comfortably and securely for hours at a time. Inside, a 5 mm dynamic driver with a high-compliance diaphragm and high-power neodymium magnet handles playback, while Sony’s Integrated Processor V1 drives the noise cancelling and sound processing in real time.

Noise cancelling adapts automatically to your surroundings, and the ambient sound mode lets outside audio in when you need awareness of traffic, announcements or conversation. Battery life runs to 6 hours per charge with noise cancelling on and up to 9 hours with it off, and the charging case takes the total to 20 hours; a 5-minute quick charge adds about an hour of playback. Noise Cancelling That Adapts

The LinkBuds S balance isolation and awareness automatically. Adaptive sound control adjusts the ambient sound settings as your activity and location change, so the earbuds can keep a busy street audible while you walk and settle into stronger cancelling when you sit down on a train. With 20 levels of ambient sound available in the Sony Headphones Connect app, the balance can also be set manually, and the noise cancelling itself is driven by the Integrated Processor V1 working with the driver and microphones to cancel low-frequency noise in particular.

Calls, Awareness and Control

Precise voice pickup technology and AI-based noise reduction keep calls clear in noisy places by isolating your voice from the surroundings. Speak-to-Chat pauses the music automatically when you start a conversation and resumes it when you finish, and wearing detection pauses playback when an earbud is removed. Touch controls on both buds are customisable in the app, which also handles equaliser settings, 360 Reality Audio setup and adaptive sound profiles that learn your frequently visited locations. Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant are built in for voice control.

Design, Case and Sustainability

The LinkBuds S and their case use recycled plastic materials, including material recovered from automobile parts, and the packaging is plastic-free. The case weighs about 35 grams, charges over USB-C in roughly 3 hours and keeps the pocket footprint small, while the earbuds themselves take about 2 hours to charge. Frequency response runs from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz at standard sampling and extends to 40,000 Hz when listening over LDAC at 96 kHz.
