Audio-Technica ATH-SR30BT Black Wireless Headphones

Audio-Technica ATH-SR30BT Black Wireless Headphones

The Audio-Technica ATH-SR30BT in black is an over-ear wireless headphone built around one standout figure: up to 70 hours of continuous music playback from a single charge, under Audio-Technica’s stated test conditions. For most listeners that turns charging into a monthly event rather than a weekly one. Around that battery sits a straightforward, well-judged specification: 40 mm dynamic drivers in closed-back housings, Bluetooth 5.0 with AAC support, a built-in microphone for calls, and a lightweight fold-flat frame of about 193 g that travels easily.

This listing is the black finish of the ATH-SR30BT. The model sits below the ATH-SR50BT in Audio-Technica’s line, and the distinction matters: the SR50BT’s active noise reduction and hear-through functions belong to that model, not this one. The SR30BT’s case rests on battery life, sound and simplicity instead.

Key features

• Up to 70 hours of continuous wireless playback on one charge
• 40 mm dynamic drivers in closed-back over-ear housings
• Bluetooth 5.0 with AAC and SBC codec support
• Lightweight fold-flat design, approximately 193 g
• Built-in microphone and earcup controls for calls and playback
• Isolation design that separates the acoustic space from the circuitry
• Black finish

Sound and isolation

The 40 mm drivers are exclusive to this design, and Audio-Technica voices the headphone for clarity across a 5 Hz to 35,000 Hz response range. The closed-back housings and over-ear cushions provide passive isolation: they do not electronically cancel noise, but they do shut out a useful amount of everyday sound in offices, trains and aircraft cabins, and they keep your music from leaking to the person next to you. Audio-Technica’s isolation layout separates the acoustic chamber from the electronic circuitry inside the earcup, which is its method for keeping the sound clean rather than coloured by the electronics sharing the space.

Battery life in practice

Seventy hours is the maximum under the manufacturer’s conditions, and real use varies with volume and source, but the arithmetic is generous either way: at two hours of listening a day, a charge lasts for weeks. A full recharge takes approximately four hours over the supplied USB cable, which uses a Micro-USB connection at the headphone end. Because the headphone is wireless-only in normal use, keeping an eye on the battery before a long journey is the one habit it asks for; there is no assumption here of a wired fallback mode.

Calls, controls and pairing

Simple controls on the earcup manage music and calls without reaching for the phone. The built-in electret condenser microphone is omnidirectional, specified from 100 Hz to 10,000 Hz, which covers the speech band for phone and video calls. Pairing follows the standard Bluetooth route: put the headphone into pairing mode, select it on the phone, tablet or computer, and confirm that both the audio and microphone routes have been picked up by any calling application you use.

For listeners whose priority is a headphone that rarely needs charging, folds flat into a bag and simply plays music and takes calls well, the ATH-SR30BT in black is the focused option in Audio-Technica’s wireless range.
