JBL Tour One Headphones

JBL Tour One Headphones

The original JBL Tour One is a wireless over-ear noise cancelling headphone built around JBL Pro Sound, True Adaptive Noise Cancelling and long battery life for work and travel. Its 40 mm drivers are Hi-Res Audio certified with a passive frequency response extending to 40 kHz, the adaptive cancellation adjusts to the surroundings in real time, and playback runs up to 50 hours with ANC off or 25 hours with ANC on. Smart Ambient functions, a four-microphone call system tuned for noisy and windy conditions, a flight adapter and a carrying case in the box mark it out as a travel-first design from JBL’s Tour range.

Key features

• True Adaptive Noise Cancelling with Smart Ambient and TalkThru
• 40 mm drivers with Hi-Res Audio certification
• Up to 50 hours playback with ANC off, 25 hours with ANC on
• Bluetooth 5.0 with voice assistant integration
• Four-microphone system for calls in noise and wind
• Flight adapter and carrying case included

Adaptive cancellation and ambient control

True Adaptive Noise Cancelling monitors the environment and varies the cancellation level automatically, so the headphone works harder in a loud cabin and relaxes in a quiet room where heavy cancellation is unnecessary and can feel oppressive. Smart Ambient is the umbrella for the hear-through functions: Ambient Aware keeps a controlled amount of outside sound present for street safety and announcements, while TalkThru lowers the music and emphasises speech for a quick conversation without removing the headphones. The JBL Headphones app exposes these modes and the equaliser, and controls on the earcups handle everyday adjustments directly.

Sound and driver specification

The 40 mm dynamic drivers carry a rated sensitivity of 95 dB SPL at 1 kHz and 32 ohm impedance. Frequency response is specified at 10 Hz to 40 kHz in passive wired mode and 10 Hz to 22 kHz in active Bluetooth mode, the extended passive figure supporting the model’s Hi-Res Audio certification for wired listening with high-resolution sources. JBL Pro Sound tuning is the house presentation developed from the company’s professional audio work, and the app equaliser allows the balance to be adjusted or personalised to taste.

Battery and connections

Battery life is rated at up to 50 hours of music playback with noise cancelling off and up to 25 hours with it on, and a full charge takes about 2 hours over the USB Type-C charging cable. Bluetooth version 5.0 uses the HFP 1.7, A2DP 1.3 and AVRCP 1.6 profiles, with transmitter power below 8 dBm EIRP in the 2.4 GHz band. A wired audio cable is supplied for battery-free listening and for sources without Bluetooth, and the included flight adapter connects to dual-prong aircraft sockets. Voice assistant integration gives access to the assistant on the connected device from the headphone controls.

Design, weight and contents

The headphone weighs 273 g. Earcup external dimensions are 9.7 cm high by 7.8 cm wide with a depth of 2.1 cm, and the internal earcup opening measures 6.2 by 4.2 cm. In the box are the Tour One headphones, a USB Type-C charging cable, an audio cable, a flight adapter, a carrying case, quick start guide and setup guides for the supported voice assistants. As the first generation of the Tour One line, manufactured from 2021, it predates the Spatial and transmitter features of later Tour models, and its value lies in the core combination of adaptive cancellation, certified high-resolution wired playback and two full days of battery between charges.

For buyers comparing generations, the essentials to check are the source devices in daily use and whether the newer models’ transmitters or spatial processing are needed; on cancellation, battery and wired resolution, the original Tour One remains a complete specification.
