Sennheiser CX 80 U USB-C Earphones

The Sennheiser CX 80 U is a wired in-ear earphone that plugs straight into the USB-C port of a modern phone, tablet or laptop. It exists because the 3.5 mm socket has disappeared from most current devices: the CX 80 U needs no dongle, no charging and no pairing, and it sounds the same on every device it plugs into because the audio travels digitally from the port. An inline microphone and remote handle calls and playback, and the lightweight in-ear fit with multiple ear tip sizes is made for long meetings, classes and commutes.

Key features

• Wired in-ear earphones with direct USB-C connection
• No adapter, charging or pairing required
• Inline microphone and remote for calls and playback
• Consistent sound across phones, tablets and laptops
• Lightweight in-ear design for all-day wear
• Multiple ear tip sizes for a proper seal

The dongle-free answer

Every device that dropped its headphone socket created the same small problem: how to listen and take calls without adding a Bluetooth battery to manage or a dongle to lose. A native USB-C earphone is the cleanest solution. The CX 80 U plugs in and works, drawing its tiny power requirement from the device, and the digital connection keeps the sound consistent from a phone in the morning to a laptop in the afternoon.

Calls are the home ground

The inline microphone and remote are placed for the working day: answer and end calls, control playback and summon the voice assistant without reaching for the device. Sennheiser’s in-ear tuning here favours clean, balanced sound with clear vocal reproduction, which is what speech intelligibility on video calls and online classes depends on, and it carries music without the exaggerated bass that tires over long listening.

Fit decides the sound

An in-ear earphone only sounds right with a seal. Try the supplied tip sizes and use the smallest that seals comfortably: the bass fills in, outside noise drops, and the volume you need falls with it. The lightweight buds and tangle-resistant cable keep the set comfortable and manageable through a full day of calls, and when the day ends there is nothing to charge.

In the box and in use

The set includes multiple sizes of ear tips so the fit can be settled before the first call rather than endured. Once fitted, daily use is deliberately uneventful: plug in, and the device treats the CX 80 U as its headset, with the remote handling the controls and the microphone carrying your voice. That uneventfulness is the product’s virtue for people whose calendar is a column of video calls: nothing to pair, nothing to charge, nothing to update, and a spare that costs little enough to keep in a second bag.

For anyone living on calls and video meetings with USB-C devices, the CX 80 U is the simple, dependable wired earphone that just plugs in and works.
