KZ Thunder Type C With Mic In-Ear

KZ Thunder (HZ x KZ) – Hybrid Driver In-Ear Monitors with Type-C Plug and Mic

The KZ Thunder is a hybrid in-ear monitor from the HZ x KZ collaboration: a 10 mm dynamic driver handles the low end while a balanced armature adds treble detail, tuned in an energetic V-shape that suits bass-forward listening. This version terminates in a Type-C plug for direct connection to modern phones and laptops, and the detachable 0.78 mm 2-pin cable carries an in-line microphone and button for calls and playback control.

Key features

• Hybrid driver configuration: 10 mm dynamic driver plus 1 balanced armature
• V-shaped tuning with strong bass and bright, detailed treble
• Type-C plug version for phones and laptops without a headphone jack
• Sensitivity of 108 dB/mW – easy to drive from any device
• Detachable 0.78 mm 2-pin cable – replace or upgrade the cable, not the earphones
• In-line microphone with single-button control for calls and music
• Transparent resin shell with black faceplate
• Frequency response extending to 40 kHz

Why hybrid drivers at this price are unusual

Single-driver earphones ask one diaphragm to produce both deep bass and fine treble detail, and something always gives. The Thunder splits the work: the dynamic driver moves air for bass weight and impact, while the balanced armature – a driver type borrowed from professional stage monitors – handles high frequencies with speed and precision. The electronic crossover keeps each driver in its comfort zone, which is how the V-shaped tuning stays exciting rather than muddy.

Fit decides the sound

With in-ears, the seal is everything: a poor seal leaks bass and lets noise in. Try each supplied tip size and choose the one that seals comfortably without pressure; the difference in bass response between a good and bad seal is larger than the difference between many earphone models. Loop the cable over and behind the ear to reduce microphonics and keep the housings seated.

Built to be repaired, not replaced

Most budget earphones die at the cable. The Thunder’s detachable 2-pin design means a damaged cable is a small replacement, and enthusiasts can fit upgrade or Bluetooth cables later. The resin shells are light for long sessions and the inline mic keeps the pair practical for calls and online classes.

Cables, tips and upgrades

The 0.78 mm 2-pin socket connects the Thunder to a wide ecosystem of replacement and upgrade cables, including Bluetooth neckband adapters that convert it to wireless for commuting. Tip rolling is the other cheap upgrade: foam tips add isolation and bass weight in noisy environments, while wider-bore silicone tips open up the treble. Both experiments cost little and let you tune the V-shape toward your taste.

For listeners who want bass energy with real treble detail – and a Type-C connection that just works with current phones – the KZ Thunder is the budget hybrid to beat.
