JBL PRX412M 12-inch 2-Way Stage Utility Speaker

JBL PRX412M

The PRX412M is a passive 12-inch two-way speaker from JBL’s PRX400 series, designed to work two jobs: main sound reinforcement on a stand, or stage monitoring from the floor, thanks to an asymmetrical enclosure that angles correctly as a wedge. It pairs a 12-inch JBL woofer with the 2414H-C 1-inch polymer diaphragm compression driver on a 90 by 50 degree Progressive Transition waveguide, and it is built for working rigs – 18mm birch/poplar plywood, DuraFlex coating, steel grille, and components drawn from JBL’s tour-proven catalogue.

Power handling is 300 watts continuous, 600 program and 1200 peak into 8 ohms, with 95dB sensitivity – so a mid-sized power amplifier drives it to a 126dB peak without strain. SonicGuard circuitry in the passive crossover protects the high-frequency driver against overload.

Key Features

• Passive 2-way: 300W continuous power capacity, 8 ohms
• Asymmetrical wedge enclosure – stand-mount mains or floor monitor
• Dual-angle pole socket: straight, or tilted 10 degrees down for audience coverage
• Twelve M10 suspension points for flown installs
• SonicGuard HF overload protection in the crossover
• Parallel Speakon NL-2 and 1/4-inch inputs for easy daisy-chaining
• DuraFlex-coated plywood cabinet, CNC-machined 16-gauge steel grille
• 95dB sensitivity – loud from modest amplifier power

One Box, Two Jobs

The enclosure geometry is the trick. Upright on its dual-angle pole socket, the PRX412M is a compact main speaker; the socket’s second position tilts it 10 degrees down so a stand-mounted box aims at the audience instead of over their heads. Laid on its side, the same cabinet becomes a floor wedge with the horn oriented for a performer standing over it. For bands and rental companies, that dual role halves the inventory needed: the same pair fronts a small gig on Friday and monitors it on Saturday.

Amplifier Matching, Briefly

Choose an amplifier delivering roughly the program rating – around 600 watts per channel into 8 ohms – for full headroom; the continuous rating of 300W is the safe long-term figure. Keep the amplifier out of clipping: SonicGuard protects the tweeter, but a clean signal at high power is always safer than a distorted one at lower power.

Where the PRX412M Fits

Live bands, DJs, houses of worship, school and club installs, and rental stock – anywhere a rugged passive 12-inch box needs to cover mains or monitors with one inventory line. Full technical specifications are in the Additional Information table on this page.
