The Arturia MiniLab 3 is a compact 25-key MIDI controller that puts a complete production surface — keyboard, pads, encoders and faders — into a laptop-bag footprint. It is designed for making music anywhere: 25 velocity-sensitive slim keys for melodies and chords, 8 RGB backlit pads for drums and triggering, 8 rotary encoders and 4 faders for hands-on control of software instruments and mixers, and touch-sensitive strips for pitch bend and modulation.

MiniLab 3 is built around integration. It ships with dedicated DAW scripts for Ableton Live, Logic, FL Studio and others, a built-in arpeggiator, a chord mode for one-finger harmony, a small OLED display with a clickable browse encoder for selecting sounds, and a software bundle headed by Analog Lab Intro with hundreds of Arturia instrument presets mapped to the hardware controls automatically.

Making music on the move

The point of a 25-key controller is that it is present when ideas arrive — on a desk beside a laptop, in a hotel room, on a train table. MiniLab 3 covers the full sketching workflow in that space: play parts on the keys, tap drums on the pads, ride filters and levels on the encoders and faders, and use hold, arpeggiator and chord modes to explore arrangements you would not play by hand.

Software integration

With Analog Lab Intro, the encoders map to the loaded preset’s key parameters without setup, and the display shows what you are browsing. In supported DAWs the transport and mixer controls map automatically. A standard MIDI output also lets MiniLab 3 drive hardware synths and modules away from the computer, and the sustain input accepts a standard pedal for piano-style playing.

Build and format

MiniLab 3 is a solid, compact unit that survives bag life, finished in the range’s clean white-and-grey scheme (this is the standard finish). It draws all power from USB-C, so a laptop is the only power source the setup needs.

For producers who sketch and write away from a main studio keyboard, MiniLab 3 is among the most complete small controllers available.

Ownership notes

Keep MiniLab 3’s firmware current through Arturia’s MIDI Control Center, which is also where pad sensitivity and controller behaviour can be adjusted. The unit travels well in a padded sleeve inside a laptop bag. Registering the hardware unlocks the bundled software licences, which are a substantial part of the package’s value — do it on day one, and the controller arrives with an instrument library already attached.
